Hike Messenger is launching an internet-free file-sharing and chat feature, Hike Direct.
Hike Direct will allow users to chat and transfer files directly with others on Hike, within a 100-metre radius, without subscribing to a Wi-Fi connection or a data pack. The upgrade, which employs Wi-Fi Direct and will be available from 8 October midnight on all smartphones above Android 4.0.6 operating system, will let users share files at a speed of 40 Mbps.
After download, Hike Direct would be available as an option on the top-right-corner menu. Replying to media queries, Kavin Mittal, founder & chief executive of Hike, said, the firms plans to expand Hike Direct from a one-on-one application, which it is now, to a one-to-many feature.
He also said the availability radius of 100 metres too would be increased in due course.
