Intel Capital to invest $18 mn more in India

Intel Capital, the global investment arm of chip maker Intel, today made an investment of $18 million in five Indian companies.

Intel Capital has announced fresh investments in PolicyBazaar, Sudhir Srivastava Robotic Surgery Centre. It also made follow on investment mobile media company July Systems; online travel company yatra.Com; and open-source application development software company WSO2.

However, the company didn’t share the details of individual investments made in these companies.

PolicyBazaar, a leading online insurance comparison site that assists customers in making informed decisions about their insurance purchase will use the fund for building brand awareness and further enhancing its technology platform and product depth.

 

The investment in Sudhir Srivastava Robotic Surgery Centre, a provider of advanced robotic surgery procedures, is the first investment by the company in the healthcare sector in India.

In addition to these two new investments, it announced follow-on investments in funding for the investments announced by Intel Capital comes from the $250 million Intel Capital India Technology Fund established in December 2005.

This fund invests in Indian technology companies to stimulate local technology innovation and the continued growth of India’s information technology industry.
