Power Grid gets telecom NLD license

Power Grid Corporation of India has obtained a national long distance (NLD) license from the Department of Telecommunications. An agreement was signed on July 5, between Power Grid and DoT senior officials in New Delhi, a release said.

The license will allow the company to explore more options and opportunities in terms of customer segments, increasing customer base and providing value added services to the customers. Power Grid plans to immediately provide services to various corporate and government agencies.

The license would also enable Powergrid to address the bandwidth requirement of corporate customers who could not be serviced under the present IP-II, IP-I and ISP Licenses. The new license is envisaged to result in increased utilisation of Powegrid's telecom network.

The company is also contemplating utilisation of its existing bandwidth for services to hospitals for tele-medicine and entertainment industry.
