HCL to send team to take stock of situation.
Indian information technology (IT) companies continued efforts to bring back their Indian staff from Japan today, as anxiety continued to grip the island nation over the nuclear crisis.
Mid-sized IT services company L&T Infotech said it had arranged a special flight tomorrow to bring back all its and L&T Group employees and their families. It has contracted Kingfisher Airlines to operate the flight from Tokyo to Chennai. The company, however, said these employees were being shifted for a temporary period. L&T Infotech has about 80 Indian employees at its Yokohama development centre.
Wipro has blocked seats on a chartered Air India flight for employees and their families who are willing to come back to India. It has 100 Indian software professionals at its Tokyo and Yokohama development centres.
“We will facilitate our local employees in Japan to work from home or temporarily relocate to safer parts of Japan, like West Japan,” the company said in a statement. It said it had undertaken extensive business continuity measures to ensure its customer operations were not impacted.
HCL Technologies said it was sending a delegation of senior executives to Japan to take stock and interact with employees. The company has given various options to employees, including working from home or other locations like Osaka, China, Singapore or India. Besides, the employees can also go on leave in consultation with their managers, it added.
iGate has offered its employees to organise logistics if they are interested to travel back to India. It has over 100 employees in Japan.
AI to operate Boeing 747 to Tokyo daily
Air India has decided to operate a daily direct flight with Jumbo 747 to Tokyo from today. The national carrier has deployed Boeing 747-400 'Jumbo', with a capacity of 423 seats, on the Delhi-Tokyo route instead of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, an airline official said.
