Dubai police have seized 81 vehicles for alleged "reckless driving", the authorities said, in a crackdown on street racing among youths in the wealthy Gulf emirate.
	The vehicles were impounded for being driven at speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour and without number plates.
	"Dubai traffic patrols tracked a number of reckless drivers and seized 81 vehicles," Dubai police commander-in-chief Major General Khamis al-Muzainah said in a statement yesterday, without specifying over what period these seizures were made.
	Among the other allegations they face is driving without headlights switched on, according to media reports.
	"Motorists who participate in racing without permission will have to pay a 100,000 dirham (USD 27,000) fine to release the confiscated vehicle, while owners of seized bikes will need to pay a 50,000 dirham (USD 13,600) fine," said the Khaleej Times newspaper.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt shook off a "horrible start" to win the 100m at the Racers Grand Prix athletics meeting in 9.88sec, the second-fastest time in the world this year.
     "It wasn't a perfect race, but the good thing was that I won and I came out injury free," said Bolt, who got away slowly but powered home, catching the field at about 50 meters and celebrating as he got to  the line first to the delight of a big crowd at the national stadium in Kingston.
     The sprint superstar led three compatriots under 10 seconds in a race run in a wind of one meter per second.
     Nickel Ashmeade and Yohan Blake were both timed in 9.94sec, with Asafa Powell finishing in 9.98.

The gunman who fatally shot Christina Grimmie, an up-and-coming young singer who once appeared on the popular TV show "The Voice," had two handguns and a hunting knife on him at the time of the attack, US police said.
	In a tweet, the Orlando Police Department identified the suspect as Kevin James Loibl, releasing a headshot and saying that he was 27 and from St. Petersburg, Florida.
	Authorities yesterday said they believed he travelled from elsewhere in Florida to Orlando, where Grimmie had given a concert, intent on targeting her.
	Grimmie, 22, performed late Friday with the group "Before You Exit" at Orlando's Plaza Live Theatre and stayed on to sign autographs and sell merchandise.
	The gunman approached her and opened fire without warning, then fatally shot himself, according to police.

Bolivia has arrested five people for allegedly coaching a boy to pretend he was President Evo Morales' son, and paying his family, in a soap opera-style scandal that has riveted the country, officials said.
	"The boy was told his entire education would be paid for, that he would be given a plot of land, in addition to as much as USD 15,000 to the boy's parents," top prosecutor Ramiro Guerrero told reporters yesterday.
	The detained suspects were not immediately identified. But they are close to Gabriela Zapata, a former girlfriend of the single president, with whom he had a son who died in 2009, Guerrero said.
	They were charged with conspiracy, people trafficking and blocking the execution of government obligations.

Venezuela's embattled President Nicolas Maduro has vowed that no referendum on ending his administration would be held until next year.
