British police have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a man in front of his 14-year-old son on a suburban London train.
The 51-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon onboard a train traveling from the town of Guildford to London Waterloo station.
Chief Inspector Sam Blackburn said the attack was "not believed to be a random assault." He said the two men appeared to have been involved in an argument that escalated in the moments leading up to the killing.
The suspect was detained early Saturday on suspicion of murder. A 27-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting the murder. Police said no one else was being sought in connection with the killing.

A 612-pound (278-kilogram) bluefin tuna sold for a record 333.6 million yen (USD 3 million) at the first auction of 2019, after Tokyo's famed Tsukiji market was moved to a new site on the city's waterfront.
The winning bid for the prized but threatened species at the predawn auction Saturday was more than double the 2013 annual New Year auction.
It was paid by Kiyomura Corp, whose owner, Kiyoshi Kimura, runs the Sushi Zanmai chain. Kimura has often won the annual auction in the past.
Japanese broadcaster NHK showed a beaming Kimura saying that he was surprised by the high price of tuna this year. But he added, "The quality of the tuna I bought is the best."
The auction prices are way above usual for bluefin tuna. The fish normally sells for up to USD 40 a pound (USD 88 a kilogram), but the price rises to over USD 200 a pound near the year's end, especially for prized catches from Oma in northern Japan.

Firefighters in Spain say that three people have been killed and more have been injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in a town near Barcelona.
Firefighters for the northeastern region of Catalonia say that the blaze on Saturday also left one baby in critical condition and two adults in serious condition.
Another 13 people needed treatment.
The fire occurred in a 10-story apartment building in Badalona, a large town just north of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast.
Firefighters say they have the flames under control.
They have not said what caused the blaze.

Pakistani police say a car bomb has exploded in a Peshawar neighbourhood wounding three people and damaging several shops.
Officer Dost Mohammad says the explosion Saturday took place outside a mosque in the Kali Bari area of the city.
He says a woman was among the wounded, who were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Mohammad said the area was nearly deserted at the time of the early morning blast.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is surrounded by lawless tribal regions that have served as a sanctuary for Islamic militants for decades.
Militants have targeted the city for years.

Car bomb explosion wounds 3 in northwest Pakistan

An Afghan official says at least seven border police officers were killed when their checkpoint came under attack by insurgents in southern Kandahar province.
Aziz Ahmad Azizi, spokesman for the provincial governor in Kandahar, says four other officers were wounded in the attack in the Spin Bolduk district.
He added that 16 insurgents were killed and 11 others wounded in an ensuing battle that took place over several hours late Friday.
The Taliban did not immediately comment on the attack but they have been carrying out near-daily attacks targeting Afghan forces, despite stepped-up efforts by the United States to find a negotiated end to the country's 17-year war.

Iran's telecommunications minister said Saturday his country's three new satellites have successfully passed pre-launch tests.
Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi made the announcement in a tweet but did not mention a launch schedule. Iran usually displays space achievements in February during the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution.
On Tuesday, Iran said it plans to send Payam, a 200-pound (90-kilogram) non-military satellite into a 310-mile (500-kilometer) orbit using an Iranian Simorgh satellite-carrier rocket.
On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Iran's plans for sending satellites into orbit demonstrate the country's defiance of a U.N. Security Council resolution that calls on Iran to undertake no activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
Iran says the launches do not violate the resolution.

Tests concluded, Iran prepares for launching of satellites

The father of one of three children found stabbed and beaten to death in a Southeast Texas apartment they shared with their mother was charged with capital murder Friday in the attack that left the woman with severe injuries.
Texas City police Chief Joe Stanton said Junaid Hashim Mehmood, 27, is facing two counts of capital murder along with a charge of aggravated assault.
The children's mother was beaten and shot several times in the face and head with a high-powered pellet gun.
Mehmood was arrested late Thursday, just hours after the slain children and their mother  24-year-old Kimaria Nelson  were discovered by officers in an apartment in Texas City.
Mehmood had earlier been identified as a person of interest in the deaths, but he was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
Galveston County assistant district attorney Kevin Petroff said it was a misdemeanour warrant for providing alcohol to a minor.

Texas man charged in slayings of 3 kids, wounding of mother

Nissan Chief Performance Officer Jose Munoz, who oversaw the Japanese automaker's global strategies, is taking a leave of absence to work on "special tasks arising from recent events," the company said Saturday, referring to the arrest of former Chairman Carlos Ghosn.
Nissan Motor Co spokesman Nicholas Maxfield did not offer any other details.
Munoz is among several executives media have speculated could be a possible successor to Ghosn.
Ghosn, a revered figure in the global auto industry, led Nissan for two decades after being sent in by Renault in 1999 when Nissan was near bankruptcy.
Renault owns 43 per cent of Nissan.
Ghosn was arrested November 19 and has been charged with falsifying financial reports in underreporting his income.

An ethics watchdog group asked the Justice Department on Friday to investigate whether President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka violated federal conflict-of-interest law by promoting an Opportunity Zone tax break program from which she could potentially benefit.
The complaint from the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington follows an Associated Press investigation last month.
The AP found that Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, both White House advisers, could benefit from the Opportunity Zones program they pushed that offers tax breaks to developers who invest in downtrodden communities.

The United Nations plans to replace an envoy who was expelled from Somalia after questioning the arrest of a political candidate with an extremist history, the world body said Friday.
The announcement came after three days of diplomatic back-and-forth over Somalia's expulsion of Nicholas Haysom, a longtime UN official who has also served as envoy to Afghanistan, Sudan and South Sudan.
UN spokesman Farhan Haq said Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has full confidence in Haysom, deeply regrets Somalia's decision and spoke twice about it with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed.
The world body also argues that its personnel can't be kicked out under the diplomatic doctrine that Somalia invoked.
Nevertheless, the secretary-general plans to appoint a new representative for Somalia, Haq said.

Five children heading to Disney World in a church van from Louisiana died along with two truck drivers in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 in north Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol said Friday.
The children were travelling in a large passenger van from Avoyelles Parish, Lt Patrick Riordan said during a news conference on Friday morning in Alachua, which is south of Gainesville.
On Thursday, a big rig and a passenger vehicle collided in the northbound lanes of the highway and continued across the guardrail and into the path of another big truck and the church van, investigators said.
"Once those semis struck, they both caught fire," Riordan said.
He said a fifth vehicle came through and either struck people who had been ejected from the vehicle or debris. Some 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled, flaming the fire that also damaged the road in some spots.

An officer at the Rusafa police division said the fire started at the shelter's kitchen after residents got into a fight.

Two women died from stab wounds and seven in the fire, according to the officer, who asked to have his name withheld in line with police regulations.

Norwegian police say four skiers who went missing after an avalanche in northern Norway this week have most likely died.
Police spokesman Morten Pettersen says "we no longer have any hopes of finding anyone alive." He said a helicopter on Friday picked up two avalanche beacon signals from an area in Tamok valley, near the northern city of Tromsoe, that had been hit by an avalanche. The skiers included a woman from Sweden and three men from Finland.
Mads Gilbert of the University Hospital of North Norway told a news conference in Tromsoe that "it was impossible to survive nearly two days buried in snow."
A search-and-rescue operation was launched after Wednesday's 300-meter wide avalanche. The skiers were last heard from that day. Heavy snowfall and poor visibility on Thursday had hampered rescue efforts.

An explosion outside an office of the far-right Alternative for Germany party in an eastern town has damaged windows and doors in the building, drawing condemnation from a senior regional official. No one was hurt.
Police told news agency dpa that an unknown substance exploded Thursday evening outside the office in Doebeln, in Saxony state  a stronghold of the party, known by its German acronym AfD, which entered the national parliament in 2017. Authorities were looking into the cause and possible motives.
Saxony's deputy governor, center-left Social Democrat Martin Dulig, tweeted Friday that there is no justification for what happened, adding that "this attack helps AfD and damages democracy." Saxony holds a state election in September.

Explosion outside office of German far-right party condemned

A German broadcaster is reporting that data and documents belonging to hundreds of German politicians have been hacked and posted on Twitter.
Public broadcaster RBB reported Friday that the leak, which saw the data posted in daily batches before Christmas on an account that has been active since mid-2017, affects all parties in parliament except the far-right Alternative for Germany.
It said there appeared to be no system to what was posted. Although it reportedly includes personal information such as cellphone numbers, addresses, internal party communications and in some cases bills and credit card details  some of the data years old  there seem to be no politically sensitive documents.
There was no immediate information on who was responsible.

Japan's prime minister confirmed in his New Year's news conference that the era name for the new emperor's reign will be disclosed April 1.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday that 2019 will mark pivotal times for Japan, repeatedly referring to Emperor Akihito's stepping down.
Akihito has chosen to buck tradition and abdicate while he is alive, citing frail health. His son becomes emperor May 1.
Era names are important as they are needed to determine what year it is in the traditional Japanese calendar.
The great public attention the rituals surrounding the new emperor's arrival have drawn highlights how steeped in tradition Japan remains, despite modernization.

Saifullah, an eyewitness who, like many Afghans uses only one name, says the fire began shortly after midnight at a gas station in Kabul's eastern Macroyan neighborhood. It quickly spread to a nearby cement block apartment complex.
Police officials contacted by The Associated Press say the fire is still under investigation and have so far refused to speculate on the cause.
Eyewitnesses say a gas-filled tanker parked on the gas station premises also caught fire, causing the blaze to spread quickly.
