Olympic wrestler Bajrang Punia, who joined the Congress, has received a threat message over WhatsApp warning him with dire consequences, police said on Sunday.
Punia has filed a complaint at Bahalgarh police station in Sonipat.
A police official said they received a complaint from Punia after which they launched an investigation.
When asked that some reports say that in the threat message Punia was asked to quit Congress or be prepared to face dire consequences, Bahalgarh police station SHO Madan Singh said over the phone, "The matter is under investigation..."
Olympians Punia and Vinesh Phogat entered the political arena on Friday by joining the Congress.
The party later fielded Phogat from Julana seat for the Haryana Assembly polls while Punia was appointed as working chairman of All India Kisan Congress.
Punia won bronze in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Polling for 90 seats in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the votes counted on October 8.

The GST Council on Monday is expected to deliberate on a host of issues, including taxation of insurance premium, GoM's suggestions on rate rationalisation, and a status report on online gaming, sources said.
Sources said the fitment committee, comprising Centre and state tax officials, will present a report on GST levied on life, health and reinsurance premiums and the revenue implications.
The GST Council, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and comprising state ministers, will decide on whether to reduce the tax burden on health insurance from the current 18 per cent or exempt certain categories of individuals, like senior citizens.
The deliberations will also happen with regard to the goods and services tax (GST) cut on life insurance premium.
In 2023-24, the Centre and states collected Rs 8,262.94 crore through GST on health insurance premium, while Rs 1,484.36 crore was collected on account of GST on health reinsurance premium.

The Congress on Sunday said the SEBI investigation into "the Adani Group's brazen attempt" to bypass regulations is still languishing and the capital markets regulator has a lot to explain.

The Telangana government on Thursday issued an order providing free power supply to government educational institutions in the state to impart quality education.
The scheme will into effect immediately, the Government Order (GO) said.
According to the modalities for the scheme's implementation, the DISCOMS (power distribution companies) will create an online portal with logins given to respective departments of all the government educational institutions of Telangana.
The secretaries of the concerned departments would finalise the list of institutions to be covered in the scheme and include the same on the online portal.
Monthly billing will be done for each institution and will be displayed in the departments' login.
The portal would also enable generation of reports pertaining to the consumption, bill amount, historical consumption, billing, payments and others.

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Sahara Group to deposit Rs 1,000 crore in a separate escrow account within 15 days and allowed it to enter into a joint venture for developing its land at Versova in Mumbai to realise Rs 10,000 crore.
The amount of Rs 10,000 crore has to be deposited in SEBI-Sahara refund account for returning the investors' money, in compliance with the apex court's 2012 order.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh and Bela M Trivedi said in case the joint venture/development agreement is not filed in the court within 15 days, then it will sell the 12.15 million square feet of land at Versova on 'as is where is' basis.
"We grant 15 days' time to SIRECL and SHICL (both Sahara Group companies) to comply with the statement made in court today. In case the joint venture/development agreement is not filed within 15 days, it will be open for this court to undertake sale of the Versova land on as is where is basis," it said.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has appointed contractors for nine infrastructure projects worth Rs 12,500 crore in and around Mumbai, including the extension of the Eastern Freeway up to Thane.
In a release on Thursday, MMRDA said that the executive committee of the urban planning body chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik approved these projects "to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity".
MMRDA prepares plans, formulates policies and programmes, and implements projects, besides helping in directing investments in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which is spread over 6,328 sq km and comprises nine municipal corporations.
The projects for which the contractors have been appointed include the Rs 2,727-crore Balkum-Gaimukh Thane Coastal Road that will run for 13.45 km, a creek bridge and a road from Kasarvadavali (Thane) to Kharbao (Bhiwandi) that will cover 3.93 km and come up at Rs 1,525.31 crore.
