With plans to run 24 additional train trips every Monday, deploy extra security personnel, expand ticketing facilities and strengthen last-mile connectivity services, the DMRC announced a series of measures aimed at encouraging more people to shift from private vehicles to public transport across Delhi-NCR.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday said it will introduce 24 additional train trips with the deployment of six extra trains every Monday from May 18, while similar arrangements may also be made on other days depending on passenger demand.
The move comes as part of efforts to strengthen mass transit systems and improve urban mobility amid growing emphasis on energy security, environmental sustainability and reduced dependence on petroleum-based transport.
According to the corporation, the additional services are aimed at handling a possible increase in passenger footfall and ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations during peak travel periods.

The Bajaj group will diversify into the healthcare business next and plans to invest over Rs 2,000 crore in Pune over the next three years, a top official has said.
Nirav Bajaj, the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Bajaj Integrated Health System, said the group will expand into up to 12 cities over the next decade.
Bajaj, the first representative from the fifth generation of the over-century-old business family to helm operations, said the group is aiming to pioneer a healthcare model consisting of a tiered approach with a clinic, ambulatory services, home care and a hospital.
"We want to treat you from prevention to acute intervention, and move you away from the hospital as much as possible. We are actually attempting to push it away from the hospital to treatment at the right venue, depending on the acuity of the needs," Bajaj, who is in his mid-30s, told PTI.

Chartered accountants' apex body ICAI will embed artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other subjects in its curriculum as it works to keep pace with the evolving technological and professional changes.
Lakhs of students are pursuing chartered accountant programme at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which has more than five lakh members.
ICAI President Prasanna Kumar D in an interview to PTI said as technology is taking the front seat now, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics need to be embedded into the subjects.
The institute has recently formed the Committee for Review of Education and Training (CRET), which is expected to finalise its recommendations, including updates for the curriculum, in the coming months.
"We have formed the CRET. It is working to review the entire curriculum like what syllabus and subject need to be changed and training (articleship)," Kumar said.

India's gems and jewellery exports declined by 9.07 per cent at USD 2,226.45 million (Rs 20,825.01 crore) in April following the West Asia conflict, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council said.
The total exports were USD 2,448.53 million (Rs 20,952.26 crore) in the same month in 2025, as per the data by the industry apex body GJEPC.
"Decline in exports is mainly due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has caused worldwide disruptions affecting exports. Besides geopolitical tensions, exports to the US, a major export market for the gems and jewellery industry, were also affected because there is still no clarity on the tariffs," GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali told PTI.
Meanwhile, data from the GJEPC revealed that the overall export of cut and polished diamonds declined 19.65 per cent in April at USD 890.91 million compared to USD 1,108.74 million for the same period last year.

A report by blue and grey-collar recruitment platform WorkIndia points to a defining moment in India's labour story, more women, more freshers, and more workers from across the country's blue and grey-collar workforce are looking beyond their home cities for better jobs, better wages, and better futures.
The data shows 8.6 million job applications for cities other than applicants' own between January and April 2026, up from 6.5 million in the same period a year ago - a 31.4 per cent year-on-year increase.
This far outpaces the 20.2 per cent growth in same-city applications, meaning the cross-city worker pool is now expanding more than 1.5 times faster than the local one, the report revealed.
