Muslim community takes out procession on 'Muharram' across nation

Agra (Uttar Pradesh)/ Aurangabad (Maharashtra)/ Leh (Ladakh), Sep 11 (ANI): The festival of Muharram was being observed by the Muslim community across the nation on September 10. Several processions were being taken out by both Shia and Sunni community in order to mark the holy day.

Muslims all across the world begin the Islamic New Year with the month of Muharram which started on September 01 in 2019. People took out celebratory procession in Uttar Pradesh's Agra to mark the beginning of a new year in Islamic calendar.

Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered in Maharashtra's Aurangabad and Ladakh's Leh to participate in the 'Ashura' processions. Muharram is the first month of Islam.

Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. The tenth day of Muharram is known as the Day of Ashura.
