A male passenger onboard an IndiGo flight from the national capital to Chennai tried to open the cover of the emergency exit door prior to take-off on Tuesday night. In a statement on Wednesday, the airline said that as per the standard operating procedure, the passenger was declared unruly by the crew and handed over to the local authorities on arrival at Chennai. The incident happened onboard flight 6E 6341 from Delhi to Chennai. The passenger tried to open the emergency exit door cover prior to take-off. At no point was the safety of the flight compromised, the statement said. Further details could not be immediately ascertained.

Domestic air passenger traffic is likely to grow 8-13 per cent in the current fiscal and the aviation industry is also expected to trim the losses further, credit rating agency Icra said on Thursday. The civil aviation ministry on Thursday said 37 passengers have been placed in the 'No Fly List' this year till July 15, and the action was taken mainly for not wearing masks or for not obeying the instructions of crew members. In recent times, there has been an increase in the number of incidents involving unruly air passengers. Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh told the Lok Sabha that a total of 63 passengers were placed in the 'No Fly List' during the year 2022 for varying periods as recommended by an airline's internal committee. "In 2023, 37 passengers have been placed in "No Fly List" upto 15.07.2023. The majority of the passengers placed in 'No Fly List' were for violation related to not wearing masks or not obeying the instructions of the crew members," he said in a written reply. The country's domestic air passenger traffic grew 18.78 per cent to around 1.25 crore in June compared to the year-ago period, according to official data released on Thursday. A spokesperson of the Adani Group-controlled facility said the LGBI Airport in Guwahati recorded a footfall of nearly five lakh passengers in June 2023, witnessing a sharp increase from the corresponding month of the last year. The Mumbai police have arrested a male passenger after a crew member of a Delhi-bound flight from here heard him talking about 'hijacking' on phone, an official said on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday night at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, he said. "A crew member of the Vistara flight, which was to go to Delhi, overheard a male passenger talking about hijacking on his phone. The crew member immediately informed the authorities and the police were also alerted," the police official said. It has come to light that the accused is mentally unstable and has been undergoing medical treatment since 2021, he said. Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport on Friday said it has recorded a 23 per cent year-on-year growth in passenger footfall to 43,43,806 passengers in May, signalling a strong rebound in air travel. Amid unrest in parts of Manipur, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has taken various measures to help air passengers while airlines have waived rescheduling and cancellation charges for flights to and from the capital city of Imphal. Curfew was relaxed on Sunday in parts of Manipur which saw ethnic rioting over the last few days. According to a civil aviation ministry official, the AAI is coordinating with the state government for transportation of stranded passengers from the airport to the city under escort and a help desk has also been set up with effect from May 4. The help desk counter is provided with AAI LAN internet facility to print tickets as internet services are unavailable in the state, as per the official. A total of 10,531 passengers at Imphal airport and the total flight movements handled was 108 till May 6, including 50 defence movements and 6 additional flights, the official added.
