The state government on Sunday said all arrangements have been made to handle the situation as cyclonic storm 'Michaung' is likely to intensify and reach north Tamil Nadu coast on December 4 before its landfall on Tuesday in southern Andhra Pradesh. While heavy rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday, the government said it has deployed disaster response force personnel in adequate numbers and relief centres are also ready to house people of vulnerable areas. The government, in an official release, said as many as 121 multipurpose centres and 4,967 relief camps with all basic amenities are ready in northern and other coastal regions of the state, besides the Cauvery delta areas. In Chennai alone, 162 relief centres are ready and, in one such facility, 348 people have been housed. Also, 714 water pumps are ready for use in low-lying areas. Cyclone 'Michaung' may bring light to moderate rain in south Bengal: Met

Southern districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, are likely to receive light to moderate rain in the next two days as an effect of cyclonic storm 'Michaung' forming over the Bay of Bengal, the Met department said on Sunday. The system, which is moving in a northwestward direction in the southwest Bay of Bengal, is under constant surveillance, it said. On reaching north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts, the system is likely to recurve and move in a northward direction and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast on December 5 as a severe cyclonic storm, the Met said. The weather system will bring in its wake light rain in south Bengal districts of Purba and Paschim Medinipore, Jhargram, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly on December 6 and 7, it added.

PM speaks to Andhra CM, takes stock of preparations for approaching cyclone

A bench of justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma issued notice to Naidu and directed that he will not participate in public rallies and meetings till December 8, which is the next date of hearing. The Supreme Court has sought a response from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the CBI on a plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to him in a disproportionate assets case. Epack Prefab, a manufacturer of pre-engineered structures, on Wednesday announced commissioning of its new facility in Andhra Pradesh set up with an investment of around Rs 200 crore. Spread over 24 acre, the new plant has an annual production capacity of 87,000 metric tonne, the UP-based company said in a statement. The new facility is located in the Tirupati region (Andhra Pradesh) and represents an investment of Rs 198 crore, it said. Besides, the company has two manufacturing plants in Ghiloth, Rajasthan, and Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh with a combined production capacity of 1,00,000 metric tonne per annum (MTPA). Andhra HC grants bail to Chandrababu Naidu in Skill Development scam case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday granted regular bail to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam case. The court converted Naidu's four-week interim medical bail into absolute bail and ordered the former chief minister's release on regular bail. "The interim bail granted to A37 (Naidu) dated October 31 is made absolute, and the petitioner (Naidu) is ordered to be released on regular bail on the bail bond already furnished by him," the court said in its order. However, the interim bail conditions such as refraining from making any public comments related to the Skill Development Corporation scam case or organising or participating in public rallies and meetings will continue to be in force till November 28. 80% of boat cost to be given to fishermen who lost them in fire: Andhra CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday announced that the government would compensate the fishermen up to 80 per cent of the losses they incurred in the fire accident here in which several boats were gutted. As many as 36 fishing boats were completely gutted and nine partially damaged in a massive fire which erupted in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, officials said. Noting that the fishermen had suffered a big loss, the chief minister directed officials to dole out the relief. He also expressed grief over the fire accident. "Show humanity and pay compensation up to 80 per cent of the value so that the victims would be able to withstand the loss and restart fishing activity with confidence. The government should stand by the fishermen in such difficult circumstances," Reddy said in an official release. SC defers hearing on ex-Andhra CM Naidu's bail plea in FibreNet case

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned to November 30 the hearing on TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's plea seeking anticipatory bail in the FibreNet case. A bench of justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi deferred the matter, saying that the judgement in another petition filed by Naidu seeking quashing of plea in the skill development scam case is likely to be delivered after the court's Diwali vacation. "There is another petition by the same petitioner which has certain overlapping issues in which judgement has been reserved by this bench. Let the matter be listed for hearing on November 30," the bench said.
