Hours after his arrest in connection with alleged multi-crore skill development scam, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said he was prepared to sacrifice his life to safeguard the interests of Telugu people, and no force can stop him. TDP chief, former Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu arrested in corruption case

Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested here in a case of alleged corruption on Saturday morning, the Andhra Pradesh Police said. The former chief minister was arrested by the CID around 6 am from R K Function Hall at Gnanapuram in Nandyala town, an official said. In a notice served to Naidu, the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the CID's Economic Offences Wing (EOW), M Dhanunjayudu, said, "It is to inform you that you have been arrested... at 6 am at R K Function Hall, Gnanapuram, H/o Moolasagaram, Nandyala town and it is a non-bailable offence." The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister has been arrested under relevant IPC sections, including Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 465 (forgery), according to the notice. The Andhra Pradesh CID has also invoked the Prevention of Corruption Act against him. The notice was served under CrPC Section 50 (1) (2).

Panasonic will invest another Rs 300 crore in Andhra facility by 2026

Panasonic Electric Works India (PEWIN) will invest another Rs 300 crore to increase capacity at its unit in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, company officials said on Friday. The Japanese company is looking to use the facility for exports and will primarily target the Middle East and African markets, they told reporters here. "We have invested Rs 300 crore as part of the first phase of the project, and will be investing another Rs 300 crore by 2026," PEWIN Director for power business unit, Rajesh Nandwani, said. At present, the overall production capacity of the company, which operates plants in Daman and Haridwar as well, is 62 crore pieces per year, which will grow to 70 crore by 2025 and 100 crore by 2030, Nandwani said. AP, SBI ink deal to upgrade, establish 7,500 micro food processing units

The Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society (APFPS) and the State Bank of India (SBI) have entered into an agreement on Tuesday to upgrade and support the establishment of at least 7,500 micro food processing units in the state. This agreement will be executed in the ongoing 2023-24 fiscal under the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. This partnership with a financial powerhouse like SBI will provide a significant boost to micro food processing enterprises in the state, said APFPS Chief Executive Sridhar Reddy in a press release, adding that maximum number of units will be covered. As part of this deal, SBI will offer collateral-free loans of up to Rs 10 lakh to eligible beneficiaries, following the guidelines of the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) under the Agri Infrastructure Fund. Andhra Pradesh govt to recruit 597 candidates under Group-I, II posts

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday issued an order to fill 597 vacant posts under Group-I and Group-II services across various departments in the state. Of the 597 vacancies that have arisen, the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) will be filling up 89 vacancies in the Group-I category while the other 508 posts belong to Group-II category. "Government hereby permits the department-wise and post-wise recruitmentto be taken up by the APPSC for 597 posts," said principal secretary Chiranjivi Choudhary in the order. As many as 12 deputy collectors, 18 assistant commissioners (sales tax) and 26 sub-divisional police officers among other posts are expected to be recruited under Group-I services. Similarly, 161 assistant section officers, 114 deputy tehsildars and 150 excise sub-inspectors among others are expected to be recruited under the Group-II category.

Andhra CM disburses Rs 680 cr to students under fee reimbursement scheme

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday disbursed Rs 680 crore under Jagananna Vidya Devena fee reimbursement scheme at Nagari in Chittoor district. The amount was credited into the bank accounts of more than 8.4 lakh women, mothers of those 9.3 lakh students. "The programme which is happening today will change the future of our children's tomorrow. Parent's poverty should not become a barrier for their children's higher studies and future," said Reddy, addressing a public meeting at Nagari. The Chief Minister promised that expenditure on higher education for eligible students will be borne by the state government, noting that the latest disbursal is for the fee reimbursement from April to June, 2023. NHPC, APGENCO to set up hydel, renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh

State-owned NHPC has inked an initial pact with the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation to set up pumped storage hydropower and other renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh. In the first phase, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) envisages building of two pumped hydro storage projects having a total capacity of 1,950 MW, an official statement said. These projects will be established at Kamalapadu (950 MW) and Yaganti (1,000 MW). Once ready, these projects are expected to create significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy. The projects will be implemented as a joint venture. NHPC has signed the MoU with Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) for implementation of pumped hydro storage projects and renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh, according to the statement. 400 vehicles gutted in fire at two-wheeler showroom in Andhra Pradesh

As many as 400 vehicles were gutted in a fire at a two-wheeler showroom here early on Thursday morning, a police official said. The fire broke out around 5 am at the showroom located near the national highway (NH-16) and raged for about 90 minutes, the police official added. "The fire accident occurred when new vehicles were being unloaded from a truck which came from Chennai," Vijayawada Central ACP P Bhaskar Rao said and added that the loss could be around Rs 4 crore, as per preliminary estimates. Five fire engines were deployed to douse the blaze as a result of which as many as 200 vehicles could be saved, he sad. No police complaint has been lodged yet, he added. Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injuries. In wake of some students from Andhra Pradesh being deported from US, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to take up the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to resolve it, said an official on Saturday. An unspecified number of students from the southern state were deported by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) federal law enforcement agency officials recently from the American airports on landing, reports said. "Reddy is looking into this matter and will address it to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for resolving this at the earliest as all students have a valid USA visa for higher studiesand also keeping in view of the careers of these students of AP," said an official of the state-government body Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) in a statement without divulging details. 50 arrested for indulging in violence during Chandrababu Naidu's rally

As many as 50 people have been arrested for indulging in stone pelting and arson during TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's tour of the district, police said on Saturday.
