Doctor charged in Matthew Perry's death case expected to plead guilty

One of two doctors charged in the investigation of the death of Matthew Perry is expected to plead guilty on Wednesday in a federal court in Los Angeles to conspiring to distribute the surgical anesthetic ketamine. Dr. Mark Chavez, 54, of San Diego, signed a plea agreement with prosecutors in August and would be the third person to plead guilty in the aftermath of the Friends star's fatal overdose last year. Prosecutors offered lesser charges to Chavez and two others in exchange for their cooperation as they go after two targets they deem more responsible for the overdose death: another doctor and an alleged dealer that they say was known as ketamine queen of Los Angeles. Chavez is free on bond after turning over his passport and surrendering his medical license, among other conditions. CBI arrests 26 alleged cybercriminals involved in fraudulent activities

In a multi-state crackdown on organised cybercrime, the CBI has arrested 26 alleged cybercriminals involved in fraudulent activities targeting people globally, officials said on Monday. The action under operation Chakra-III started with raids at 32 different places across Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam late night last Thursday. The central agency has seized Rs 58.45 lakh cash, locker keys and three luxury vehicles, they said. Four call centres -- V.C. Inconformities Pvt. Ltd at Regent Plaza, Pune; V.C. Infrometrix Pvt. Ltd, Murli Nagar, Visakhapatnam; Viajex Solutions, Hyderabad; and Atriya Global Services Pvt. Ltd, Visakhapatnam -- were among the places raided by the agency. CBIC suspends Bengaluru CGST officials arrested for extortion charges

The CBIC on Friday said it has suspended some CGST officials in Bengaluru who have been arrested by the city police for alleged extortion charges. On September 11, Bengaluru City Crime Branch arrested four Central GST officials based on a complaint of kidnapping and extortion filed by a businessman at Byappanahalli police station of Bengaluru East division. The arrested include a superintendent rank officer apart from inspector and senior intelligence officer rank staffers of the GST. In a post on X, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said as per media reports, it has been reported that some CGST officials in Bengaluru have resorted to alleged extortion in violation of the laws of the land. "The officers involved have been immediately suspended," it said. It further said that the CBIC is in touch with police authorities who got the remand of these officers arrested by them. "Based on the outcome of the investigation in the matter, further action will be taken.

Three arrested in connection with Pune former corporator's murder

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of former Pune Municipal Corporation corporator, Vanraj Andekar, who was allegedly shot at and attacked with sharp weapons the previous day, police said on Monday. Police suspect a relative of Andekar, who was in his late 30s, orchestrated the attack over an ongoing dispute. Andekar was associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (undivided) before the Pune civic body was brought under state administrator. Former Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Ramuram Raika has been arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police in connection with sub-inspector recruitment paper leak, an official said. ED arrests 4 in Chinese-linked online betting app fraud worth Rs 400 cr

Four persons have been arrested in connection with a Rs 400 crore "fraud" online betting and gaming app allegedly linked to some Chinese nationals, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Friday.
