HC refuses to prepone hearing on Kejriwal's plea in excise policy case

The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to advance the hearing on a petition by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal challenging a trial court's order taking cognisance of a chargesheet filed against him in a money laundering case. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri said, "matter will be heard on the same date (December 20). I have a lot on the board to hear." Kejriwal had sought preponement of the date of hearing on his petition from December 20. After the court declined to change the date, Kejriwal's counsel pleaded that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) be directed to a supply copy of its reply to the petition in advance. "Whatever you file, give it to them also," the court told the ED's lawyer. On November 21, the high court refused to stay at that moment the trial court proceedings against Kejriwal in the money laundering case. The high court had issued notice and sought response of the ED on the plea by the former Delhi chief minister. Kejriwal sought setting aside of the trial court order and a

Kejriwal condemns attack on Badal, lauds Punjab Police for averting tragedy

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday condemned the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at Golden Temple in Amritsar and lauded the Punjab Police for averting a "very big" tragedy. Speaking in Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal also hit out at the BJP, saying "very big powers" are conspiring to defame Punjab and people of the state. "The Punjab Police not only averted the tragedy but also set an example of how to maintain law and order," the former Delhi chief minister said. He said that the issue of attack on Badal was raised by the BJP, but the party was silent over the "murders, rapes, shooting in Delhi" where police come under the Central government. A former terrorist opened fire at Badal from a close range while he was performing the duty of 'sewadar' outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday but missed as he was overpowered by a plainclothes policeman. The audacious attack was captured on cameras of mediapersons who had gathered outside the Sikh shrine to cover

Kejriwal slams Centre for lawlessness after Delhi's triple murder incident

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government after three members of a family were found dead at their home in the national capital. Describing the incident as "extremely painful and frightening," the AAP convener accused the Centre of allowing criminals a free hand and failing to ensure law and order in the capital. "Three murders in the same house in Neb Sarai This is extremely painful and frightening. Every day, Delhiites wake up to such frightening news. Criminals have been given a free hand, law and order has collapsed. Homes are being destroyed, innocent lives are being lost. And those who are responsible are silently watching all this happen," he wrote in a post on X. "Will the central government keep quiet like this and watch the law and order situation in Delhi collapse? Will its party still say that crime is not an issue in Delhi?" he added. The Delhi Police operates under the Union Ministry of Home .

Delhi excise policy case: HC asks Kejriwal, Kavitha to respond to ED's plea

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the responses of several AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, and BRS leader K Kavitha on the ED's plea challenging a trial court's order directing it to supply "unrelied documents" to those accused in the alleged money laundering case related to the excise policy. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri issued notices to all the 40 accused on the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) petition as well as its application for stay in the case. The high court listed the matter for further hearing on January 30 next year. Besides former Delhi chief minister Kejriwal, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh and several businessmen are among the accused in the case. In November, the trial court directed the ED to supply the chargesheet and the digitised records of the remaining "unrelied documents" (those which are not used by the prosecution to support their case) to the persons accused in the case. The ED counsel said the trial court had given the ED directio

AAP in a dangerous place now, can go to any extent for power: BJP

The BJP on Tuesday cited the conviction of AAP MLA Mehrauli Naresh Yadav in a case of desecration of the Quran in Punjab to accuse the party of going to any extent in its alleged greed for power. BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi told reporters that another AAP MLA, Naresh Balyan, was recently arrested by the Delhi Police on extortion charges, as she hit out at party leader Arvind Kejriwal. "Be it extorting money or stoking communal passion, such shrewd minds and such a party in its greed for power can go to any extent," she alleged. Ilmi, who was once with AAP before falling out with Kejriwal, said Delhi's ruling party says all kinds of things to get Muslim votes but its MLA conspires to defile the Quran in Punjab. Kejriwal's friend and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav should also talk about it, she said. "This party (AAP) has crossed all limits and come to a dangerous place," Ilmi said, adding that it is now up to the people to decide to get rid of such leaders. Ilmi suggested

Excise policy 'scam': Delhi HC asks ED to reply to Manish Sisodia's plea

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought the Enforcement Directorate's response on a plea of AAP leader Manish Sisodia challenging a trial court's order taking cognisance of a chargesheet filed in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri issued the notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and fixed Sisodia's plea on December 20, when AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's similar petition is also listed for further proceedings. The former deputy chief minister sought the high court's direction to set aside the trial court's order on the ground that the special judge took cognisance of the chargesheet in the absence of any sanction for the prosecution of the former Delhi chief minister, who was a public servant when the offence was allegedly committed. Sisodia is out on bail in the case. According to the CBI and the ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours were extended to the licence holders. The De

Liquid attack on Kejriwal: Police file case; accused being interrogated

The Delhi Police and other security agencies are interrogating a man who splashed some liquid on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during his 'padyatra' in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, a senior police official said on Sunday. Police said a case has been registered against the accused, Ashok Kumar Jha, and on his instance a 500ml bottle filled with one third of water has been seized. "Different teams, along with other security agencies, are conducting the probe and a joint interrogation of accused Ashok Kumar Jha is going on," said the police official. "Proceedings under sections 126 (obstructing someone's movement) and 169 (design to commit cognisable offences) of the BNSS has been initiated against Jha to prevent him from repeating such offence in future. Further inquiry is under progress," the official said. Jha splashed some liquid on Kejriwal during his 'padyatra' on Saturday, with the AAP claiming that it was spirit and the "attacker" wanted to set the party supremo afire. While poli

Raised issues hoping for Centre to act but I was attacked instead: Kejriwal

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday targeted the BJP-led central government for alleged inaction on law and order issues here, claiming that instead of taking action against criminals, an attack was orchestrated on him during his November 30 padyatra in Malviya Nagar. The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal said, "The liquid thrown on me was harmless, but it could have been dangerous. This is the third attack on me in the last 35 days." The former chief minister also accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of sending the message that complainants, rather than offenders, will face arrest. Kejriwal also criticised the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, who had earlier filed a complaint about extortion by gangsters. "Instead of arresting criminals, they are targeting our MLAs," the AAP chief alleged, demanding action against the real offenders to ensure the safety of Delhi's residents. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann calls attack on Kejriwal 'utterly shameful'

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday condemned the incident in which some liquid was splashed on AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi. He said the alleged attack on the former Delhi chief minister was "utterly shameful." On Saturday evening, Kejriwal was greeting people standing behind a cordon when a man approached him and splashed some liquid on him, following which the security personnel swiftly overpowered him. Kejriwal and the security personnel accompanying him were later seen wiping their faces. Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Mann in a statement, said, "Since Kejriwal began questioning the BJP about law and order and public safety in Delhi, they have become frustrated. This attack is a direct result of that frustration. It is disgraceful that this is the third attack on Arvind Kejriwal in just 35 days. Whenever the BJP fails to fulfil its responsibilities, it resorts to violence and conflict." AAP Punjab president Aman Arora also condemned the
