Rahul Gandhi to target BJP's divisive agenda in Manipur tomorrow

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who will campaign in troubled Manipur on Tuesday, is expected to target the BJP's divisive politics in the poll-bound north-eastern state.Sources said Rahul's campaign in capital Imphal on Tuesday has been planned amid security concerns and follows a rally by PM Modi on February 25, when the insurgents called for a state-wide bandh.Faced with a three-term anti-incumbency, the ruling Congress is banking on the development work done by Chief Minister Ikram Ibobi Singh over the past 15 years while the BJP has been levelling corruption charges against his government.Congress managers said people will see which party brought peace in the troubled state and worked for them. Congress strategists accused the BJP of being hand in glove with the insurgents who have a presence in around 20 assembly seats and cover around two thirds of the geographical area in the state. The BJP has blamed the state government for the recent blockade by the insurgents which ...

UP assembly polls: Sensitive Nepal border districts witness polling

The sensitive districts bordering Nepal are witnessing polling today in the 5th phase of the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly election.A total of 51 assembly constituencies spread across 11 districts of the 'terai' (Himalayan foothills) and Eastern UP regions are covered in this phase, including Balrampur, Gonda, Faizabad, Ambedkarnagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabirnagar, Amethi and Sultanpur. In his recent election rally in Gonda, Prime Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mascot Narendra Modi had stressed the vulnerability of border districts for infiltration by anti-national elements even as he sought votes for the party to secure the country's territorial interest.Meanwhile, Amethi and Sultanpur, apart from Rae Bareli, have been the traditional pocket boroughs of the Gandhi family with the former being represented by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. However, over the last few elections, the Gandhi's influence in these pockets is ...
