Automobile exports from India rose by 19 per cent to over 53 lakh units in the last 2024-25 fiscal year driven by robust demand for passenger vehicles, two wheelers and commercial vehicles in the overseas markets. Overall exports last fiscal stood at 53.63 lakh (53,63,089) units as compared with 45 lakh (45,00,494) units in 2023-24 fiscal ending March 31, 2024. Passenger vehicle shipments rose by 15 per cent to 7,70,364 units last fiscal as against 6,72,105 units in FY24. The segment reported its best ever yearly performance last fiscal driven by demand for global models being manufactured in India, industry body SIAM stated. NITI Aayog on Friday suggested the government to provide fiscal incentives for auto components manufacturing and to develop brownfield large-scale auto clusters for positioning India as a key player in global automotive markets. The report titled "Automotive Industry: Powering India's Participation in Global Value Chains" was launched by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery. The report envisions the country's automotive component production growing to USD 145 billion, with exports tripling from USD 20 billion to USD 60 billion by 2030. "The government should provide operational expenditure (Opex) support to scale up manufacturing capabilities, with a focus on capital expenditure (Capex) for tooling, dyes, and infrastructure," it said. JLR posts flat volume growth for FY25
Automobile retail sales in India rose 6 per cent to 2,61,43,943 units in FY25 with rural areas performing better than urban regions across passenger vehicle and two-wheeler segments, dealers' body FADA said on Monday. The last financial year saw growth in sales of passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Registrations of commercial vehicles and tractors however saw a dip in FY25 as compared to FY24. Overall retail sales stood at 2,45,58,437 units in the 2023-24 fiscal. As per FADA, passenger vehicle retail sales witnessed an increase of 5 per cent to 41,53,432 units last fiscal as compared to 39,60,602 units in FY24. Two-wheeler registrations rose 8 per cent to 1,88,77,812 units as compared to 1,75,27,115 units in 2023-24 fiscal.
