World Cup: BCCI tells HCA that no further change in schedule possible

The Indian cricket board on Monday officially turned down the request of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to change the ICC World Cup 2023 schedule. The HCA had appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a change in schedule after the local police authorities expressed their reservations about deploying adequate personnel on back-to-back match days. "BCCI secretary Jay Shah held a meeting with HCA officials in Delhi after the Asia Cup team selection meeting (for which the secretary is convenor) and the state unit was categorically told that no changes would be entertained after a revised schedule was issued on August 9," a BCCI source informed. The BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had already indicated on Sunday that "changes (to the schedule) were unlikely." The World Cup schedule, which was first released on June 27 in Mumbai amidst fanfare, went through a lot of changes with dates and timings of as many as nine games, including the marquee India vs

Uthappa not happy with BCCI's cooling off period for retired cricketers

A cooling-off period for retired Indian cricketers who want to play in overseas T20 leagues would be "uncomfortable and unfair", reckons former India international Robin Uthappa. The BCCI has been mulling a cooling-off period which would prevent players from joining overseas leagues right after their retirement. However, no decision has been taken yet. Uthappa, who retired from international and IPL cricket last year, was recently part of the T10 league in Zimbabwe. He also took part in the ILT20 in the UAE. I think it is human nature to feel uncomfortable about it. We do not have any central contract with the BCCI, we are not playing cricket in India anymore so it certainly does make you feel a little uncomfortable and unfair for sure, Uthappa replied to a PTI query during an interaction organised by Jio Cinema. Having said that, the BCCI has certainly looked after all of us. I am certain whatever decision they take will be in the best interest of the BCCI and the players who are

The highlight of this new cycle will be 21 home games against Australia (five Tests, 6 ODIs and 10 T20Is) along with 18 games against England (10 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is) out of the 25 Tests, 27 ODIs and 36 T20Is.
