7 fall sick after chlorine gas leaks at water filtration plant in Bhopal

Seven people fell sick after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder at a water filtration plant in Bhopal, bringing back grim memories of the 1984 gas tragedy in the Madhya Pradesh capital. A 900 kg chlorine cylinder leaked on Wednesday at the water treatment plant of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation at the Idgah Hills, Shahjanabad area's Assistant Commissioner of Police Umesh Mishra told PTI on Thursday. Seven people living in slums near the plant complained of some health issues. They were shifted to hospital, he said. Local residents said after the gas leak, some people complained of breathing difficulties, coughing and vomiting due to the foul smell. Mishra said after the gas leak was noticed, the cylinder was thrown in water at the filtration plant. The snag at the plant has been fixed, he said. Seven injured in blast at BPCL oil depot near Bhopal, says official

Seven persons were injured, two of them seriously, in a blast that occurred when petrol was being filled in the container of a tanker at a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's (BPCL) depot on the outskirts of Bhopal, an official said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday evening at the oil depot located in Bakania area, Khajuri police station in-charge Sandhya Mishra said. The "unexpected fire" was being investigated, BPCL said in a statement later. "Seven persons were injured in the blast. While six of them are either drivers or helpers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) who were there to get fuel filled in their tankers, one is an employee of BPCL," she said. Two of them were seriously injured and undergoing treatment at a private hospital, Mishra added. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the police official said a short-circuit could be the reason. Army begins construction of Bailey Bridge on Bhopal-Nagpur highway: Officer

The Indian Army has started the construction of 90-feet-long Bailey Bridge over Sukhtawa river, which collapsed in April due to heavy vehicular traffic, an official said on Saturday. As per an official release, the engineers of Sudarshan Chakra Corps of the Southern Command, who were mobilised from Bhopal, commenced the construction of the bridge on Bhopal-Nagpur National Highway 46 near Narmadapuram. The 145-year-old bridge had collapsed in April due to heavy vehicle traffic, and the state administration had requisitioned the Army to construct bridge and restore traffic, it was stated. Meanwhile, a diversion built to sustain heavy traffic on Sukhtawa river also got submerged multiple times amid heavy rains, thus cutting off the crucial lifeline. Over the last three months, the Engineer Regiment from Sabse Behtar Brigade along with Madhya Pradesh authorities and the NHAI worked on war footing for early construction of the bridge, the release said. Amit Shah to chair inter-state council meeting in Bhopal on Monday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a meeting of the central region of the Inter State Council here on Monday, officials said. He will arrive in the Madhya Pradesh capital on Sunday night, said state home minister Narottam Mishra. The inter-state council meeting will take place at Kushabhau Thakre Hall (known as Minto Hall earlier).
