BENGALURU (Reuters) - Gold prices on Tuesday climbed to a one-week high on the back of a weaker dollar, after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was "not thrilled" with the Federal Reserve for raising interest rates.
Coriander prices were trading higher by 1.27 per cent at Rs 5,020 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions amid rising spot demand. Besides, tight stocks position on account of restricted arrivals from major growing belts also weighed on coriander futures. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, coriander for September rose by Rs 63, or 1.27 per cent, to Rs 5,020 per quintal, with an open interest of 38,190 lots. Similarly, the delivery for far-month October was trading higher by Rs 46, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 5,398 per quintal with an open interest of 6,410 lots. Market analysts attributed the rise in coriander futures to the rise in demand at the physical market against tight stocks on fall in supplies from producing regions.
Castor seed prices rose by Rs 15 to Rs 4,787 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators raised their holdings, supported by optimistic market lead. Marketmen said participants accumulated holdings on the back of a firm physical market trend, where prices enquired higher on restricted arrivals and pick up in demand from soap, paint and lubricant industries, supported the upside. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castor seed for October gained by Rs 15, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 4,787 per quintal, showing an open interest of 23,690 lots. Similarly, delivery for September moved up by Rs 10, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 4,727 per quintal, with the business turnover of 1,34,030 open interest lots.
Airline stocks today surged as much as 3 per cent in morning trade after official data showed that domestic passenger traffic grew 21 per cent in July as compared to the year-ago month. According to the data, domestic airlines carried 115.57 lakh passengers in July this year. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation today opened at Rs 1,075, then gained further ground and touched a high of Rs 1,106, up 1.86 per cent over the previous close. SpiceJet stock also opened on a strong note and touched a high of Rs 87.20, up 3.01 per cent over its last close. Shares of Jet Airways however fell nearly 4 per cent in morning trade after reports surfaced that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has opened a preliminary inquiry into the carrier. Shares of Jet Airways opened on a weak note at Rs 297.80, then fell to a low of Rs 289.95, down 3.73 per cent over its previous closing price. Budget carrier IndiGo continued to be the largest player with a market share of 42.1 per cent while that of national carrier .
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Oil prices held firm on Tuesday, with U.S. fuel markets seen to be tightening, although the release of crude from the American strategic reserve somewhat offset an expected supply cut due to upcoming sanctions against Iran.
Soybean prices slackened by Rs 14 to Rs 3,336 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators reduced holdings in tandem with lower overseas cues. Marketmen said following the subdued global markets trend, traders were minimizing their holdings, which described the downfall in soybean futures prices. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, soybean delivery for October fell by Rs 14 or 0.42 per cent to Rs 3,336 per quintal, persisting an open interest of 52,630 lots. Also, the delivery for November shed Rs 13 or 0.39 per cent to Rs 3,338 per quintal, mirroring an open interest of 30,320 lots.
Cottonseed oil cake prices marked up by Rs 19.50 to Rs 1,859 per quintal in futures trade today as operators collected bets in the face of strong physical markets trend. Marketmen said, firm stance at the spot markets where prices ruled higher on thin supplies and gearing up in demand for animal feed making industries, encouraged traders to build up exposures, which pushed up trading sentiments in the cottonseed oil cake futures prices. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange platfrom, cottonseed oil cake delivery for the most active September month contract spurted by Rs 19.50 or 1.06 per cent to Rs 1,859 per quintal, revealing the business turnover in 1,32,640 open interest lots. Meanwhile, the delivery of the second contract October month edged up by Rs 3 or 0.17 per cent to Rs 1,758 per quintal, open interest stood at 34,700 lots.
