Elon Musk filed a lawsuit on Monday against OpenAI and two of its founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, renewing claims that the ChatGPT-maker betrayed its founding aims of benefiting the public good rather than pursuing profits. The lawsuit, filed in a Northern California federal court, called Musk's case a textbook tale of altruism versus greed. Altman and others named in the suit intentionally courted and deceived Musk, preying on Musk's humanitarian concern about the existential dangers posed by artificial intelligence, according to the complaint. Musk was an early investor in OpenAI when it was founded in 2015 and co-chaired its board alongside Altman. In the lawsuit, he said he invested tens of millions of dollars and recruited top AI research scientists for OpenAI. Musk resigned from the board in early 2018 in a move that OpenAI said at the time would prevent conflicts of interest as he was recruiting AI talent to build self-driving technology at the electric car maker. Watermarking can prove to be an effective way to find out if a content was written by AI, and OpenAI has said that the watermarking does not affect the quality of content produced by ChatGPT
When chatbots were tested for their political inclination, most of them revealed a left-of-centre stance, a study has revealed. However, when the chatbots, including ChatGPT and Gemini, were tested after being "taught" a certain political inclination -- left, right or centre -- they produced responses in alignment with their "training," or "fine tuning," David Rozado, a researcher from Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand, found. This shows that chatbots can be "steered" towards desired locations on the political spectrum, using modest amounts of politically aligned data, the author said in the study published in the journal PLoS ONE. Chatbots are AI-based large language models (LLMs), which are trained on massive amounts of textual data and are, therefore, capable of responding to requests framed in the natural language (prompts). Multiple studies have analysed the political orientation of chatbots available in the public domain and found them to occupy varied locations on the political
Explaining advanced voice mode, OpenAI said that ChatGPT will offer more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to interrupt anytime, and senses and responds to your emotions
Voice Mode already exists in ChatGPT across both free and paid tiers, but with GPT-4o, the feature is getting low latency natural conversational experience

Hong Kong's government is testing the city's own ChatGPT -style tool for its employees, with plans to eventually make it available to the public, its innovation minister said after OpenAI took extra steps to block access from the city and other unsupported regions. Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong said on a Saturday radio show that his bureau was trying out the artificial intelligence program, whose Chinese name translates to document assistance application for civil servants," to further improve its capabilities. He plans to have it available for the rest of the government this year. The program was developed by a generative AI research and development center led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in collaboration with several other universities. Sun said the model would provide functions like graphics and video design in the future. To what degree it would compare to the capabilities of ChatGPT was unclear. Sun's bureau did not respond
OpenAI whistleblowers have filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission and asked the agency to investigate whether the ChatGPT maker illegally restricted workers from speaking out about the risks of its artificial intelligence technology. A letter to SEC Chair Gary Gensler representing one or more anonymous and confidential whistleblowers asks the agency to swiftly and aggressively enforce its rules against non-disclosure agreements that discourage employees or investors from raising concerns with regulators. The July 1 letter references a formal whistleblower complaint recently filed with the SEC. The Washington Post was the first to report on the letter. US Sen. Chuck Grassley's office shared a copy of the letter with The Associated Press, noting it was provided to his office by legally protected whistleblowers. OpenAI's policies and practices appear to cast a chilling effect on whistleblowers' right to speak up and receive due compensation for their protected .
