China protests to India over opening of Taiwan's office in Mumbai

China said it lodged a diplomatic protest with India over the newly established office of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) of Taiwan in Mumbai. There is but one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here on Thursday replying to a question. China strongly opposes all forms of official contact and interaction between Taiwan and countries having diplomatic relations with China, including the establishment of representative offices for each other. We have lodged solemn representations to the Indian side, she said. Mao said the one-China principle is a serious political commitment made by the Indian side and serves as the political foundation for China-India relations. China urges the Indian side to strictly abide by the commitments it has made, prudently and properly settle the Taiwan-related issues, not to conduct any form of official interaction with Taiwan and avoi

Borosil urges govt on imposing anti-dumping duty on Chinese solar glass

Leading glass maker Borosil has urged the government to impose anti-dumping duty on Chinese solar glass to provide a level playing field to the domestic players, else the Indian industry will "die". Chinese makers are exporting solar glass into India at a price which is "much below" their cost of production, alleged Borosil Renewables Vice Chairman Shreevar Kheruka. These glasses are mainly used in the manufacturing of solar panels and are crucial for India's quest for growth in renewable energy. Painting a grim picture of the industry due to the alleged dumping, Borosil Renewables Vice Chairman Shreevar Kheruka said that the price at which the Chinese are selling their solar glasses in India is even lower than the prices of raw material, power and fuel expenses. The cost of Chinese solar glasses is heavily subsidised by their government and that ranges between 35 to 55 per cent of the cost of the product, Kheruka claimed. If the Indian government does not impose anti-dumping duty

EV shift especially in China likely to disrupt global oil market, says IEA

An increasing shift toward electric vehicles globally, especially in China, is poised to disrupt the global oil market, according to a report released Wednesday by the International Energy Agency. In recent years, China has accounted for most of the growth in oil demand and planet-heating emissions, but electric vehicles now make up 40% of new sales of cars there, and 20% of sales globally, putting major oil and gas producers in a bind. The IEA World Energy Outlook 2024 outlines a future where EV adoption continues to gain momentum, potentially displacing up to 6 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2030. The agency said based on current trends and policies and the availability of materials, EV will reach 50% of global car sales in 2030. China already accounts for half the world's electric cars on the road. By 2030, it's projected that 70% of new car sales in China will be electric. With its massive additions of new wind and solar power, China is aligned with its target for ...
