We go into every match with ruthless mindset: Parunika after U19 WC SF win

Not worrying about pressure and being "ruthless" have been the hallmark of the Indian team so far as it aims to retain the U19 Women's T20 World Cup here, said left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia after guiding her side to the final of the prestigious tournament on Friday. India are just win away from retaining the title when they take on South Africa on Sunday and Parunika said the team enters every match with the determination to dominate. India crushed England by nine wickets to set up a summit clash with South Africa, who defeated Australia by five wickets in the other semifinal. "We have made it our motto that we are not going to worry about pressure, we are just going to enjoy the game. Whatever happens, we will go through it together. It's '11 against all'," Parunika, who returned excellent figures of 3/21 in four overs, told ICC after the match. "We have been playing together for seven or eight months. Our support staff has always been there and made sure we are together, mak

Maybe I wasn't able to deliver: says Wriddhiman Saha on 2022 India ouster

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha on Thursday acknowledged that his axing from the national side under Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure in 2022 was "not an injustice" but a decision based on team requirements. The 40-year-old Saha kept wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens one last time in Bengal's Ranji Trophy match against Punjab on Thursday. Despite being one of India's finest glovemen, Saha's international career effectively ended in 2021 when the new team management, led by head coach Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma, prioritised KS Bharat as Rishabh Pant's backup. His omission from the India squad for the home series against Sri Lanka in 2022 led to a rare outburst, as he shared dressing-room conversations with Dravid and then chief selector Chetan Sharma. "I wouldn't call it injustice. That would be selfish. Maybe it wasn't just one person's decision. Maybe I wasn't capable enough or didn't deliver as expected, so they made their choice," Saha told reporters here.

MI owners win bid for 49% stake in the Hundred's Oval Invincibles: Report

Mumbai Indians owners Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) are set to acquire a 49% stake in the Hundred franchise Oval Invincibles after winning a three-way bidding war in a virtual auction on Thursday, according to a report. RIL, owned by the Ambani family, has entered an exclusivity period to finalise agreements with Surrey, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and financial advisors before completing the purchase, according to a report in 'ESPNCricinfo'. The winning bid reportedly values the franchise at 123 million pounds, meaning RIL will pay just over 60 million pounds for its 49% stake. RIL won a fiercely contested e-auction, fending off competition from a Silicon Valley tech consortium, comprising the chief executives of Google, Microsoft, and Adobe, as well as private equity giant CVC, the owners of IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, according to the report. Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful IPL franchises while Surrey are the richest English county club. Oval

SA20: Capitals sink Joburg to keep themselves alive in race to playoffs

A rejuvenated Pretoria Capitals registered a six-wicket bonus point victory over Joburg Super Kings to remain in the race for the SA20 playoff berth here. The Capitals restricted the Super Kings to a paltry 99 for 9 and then eased past the target losing just four wickets for a crucial win. With this win, the Capitals moved up to 14 points - just one point behind the fourth-placed Super Kings on 15. The captain's armband was also passed to Kyle Verreynne after Rilee Rossouw withdrew due to the birth of his child. Knowing that only a victory would keep their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive, the Capitals produced their most clinical performance of the season thus far. Will Jacks set the tone with the ball, conceding just two runs from his two overs in the Powerplay, which was just the confidence booster the Capitals required. Super Kings, on the other hand, were unable to set any form of a platform, especially after the in-form Devon Conway was forced to leave the field i

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice steps down weeks ahead of Champions Trophy

International Cricket Council CEO Geoff Allardice has decided to step down just weeks before the Champions Trophy with a board member indicating that his failure to present a "clear picture" of host Pakistan's lack of preparedness is one of the multiple reasons behind the move. The 57-year-old joined the ICC in 2012 as General Manager of Cricket, coming from Cricket Australia, where he served as Cricket Operations Manager. He was appointed CEO of the ICC in November 2021, after having served as acting CEO for eight months. "It has been a privilege to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council and I am incredibly proud of the results we have achieved, from enhancing the global reach of cricket to the commercial foundation put in place for ICC Members," Allardice said in a statement. "I believe this is the right time for me to step down and pursue new challenges," he added. The official ICC statement made no mention of the exact reasons for Allardice's
