Government today extended the last date for filing of GST returns for taxpayers registered in flood hit Kerala, Mahe (Puducherry) and Kodagu district of Karnataka. The revenue department has also exempted basic customs duty and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST) on import/supply of goods for flood relief in Kerala. The due date of filing of GST summary sales returns in Form GSTR 3B for July has been extended to October 5 from August 20 for the flood affected areas. However, for other taxpayers, the date has been extended only till August 24. Taxpayers in these flood affected areas will be given time till October 10 for filing GSTR-3B for the month of August. "In view of disruption caused due to severe floods in Kerala, Mahe (Puducherry) and Kodagu (Karnataka), the competent authority has extended the due dates for filing of (GSTR-3B and GSTR-1) by taxpayers" registered in these areas, an official statement said. The Indian Railways said it has repaired all tracks damaged by the devastating floods in Kerala and restored the traffic to normal from today. The Railway Ministry said three divisions of the Southern Railway were severely affected by flash floods, landslides and due to boulders falling on tracks. The Southwest Monsoon brought unprecedented rainfall to in the past one week, forcing authorities to open 36 dams in the state. The ministry said the water level in Thiruvananthapuram division rose above the danger mark across 11 bridges and tracks were submerged under flood water at three locations. Earth slips happened at seven locations over various sections. In Palakkad division, water level rose above the danger level across 10 bridges, while in Madurai division, earth slipped and boulders fell at six locations. One person was killed when a truck hit a stationary lorry in West Bengal's Bankura district today, a senior police officer said. Superintendent of Police, Sukhendu Hira said the truck hit the stationary lorry on Durgapur-Bankura Road in which the helper of the truck was killed. The UIDAI has directed the Aadhaar enrolment agencies in Kerala, including banks and post offices, to facilitate retrieval of the 12-digit number and provide free printouts to Aadhaar-holders who have lost their document in the flood-hit state. The e-Aadhaar printouts can be taken by people from the enrolment centres by giving their name and biometric authentication, UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey told PTI. Pandey said that the instructions are being issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in this regard to the enrolment centres in the state. He added that enrolment agencies can also help in the retrieval of Aadhaar numbers by visiting the relief camps. In view of uncertain weather conditions that have adversely affected Kerala, the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences on Tuesday proposed to set up a Cyclone Warning Centre in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, by next month.At present, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cyclone warning centres at Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.The new centre would cater to the needs of Kerala and Karnataka, and would be well-equipped with state of the art of infrastructure. Over 24,000 people have been evacuated till now from the flood affected regions of Kerala till now even as 41 NDRF teams are still undertaking relief and rescue operations in the state, a force spokesperson said today. Flood waters were receding in most of the affected areas and there are no alerts for heavy rainfall for the next few days. "The force has rescued 535 people and evacuated 24,616 marooned people to safer places. 119 animals were also evacuated and pre-hospital treatment was provided to 4,908 people till now," he said.
