The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Gangetic West Bengal, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Vidharbha (Maharashtra).The warning came due to a depression formed in the northwest Bay of Bengal.The high alert in these states has been issued in case of any untoward situation. All NDRF teams have been equipped with boats, divers and other flood rescue related equipment along with paramedic staff.In addition, the NDRF teams deployed in Gujarat are continuing with the restoration work in the flood-affected areas.A total of 112 NDRF teams have been deployed across the country.

A mild tremor with a magnitude of 3.3 was experienced today in various parts of Salem district, about 120 km from here, triggering panic among people who rushed out of their homes. However, no damage was reported, district officials said. The tremor was felt at Thivattipatti, Ammapettai, Omalur, Tharamangalam and Kannangurichi for a few seconds around 7.50 AM, they said. The tremor was also felt in and around Mettur dam, which was brimming to full, they added. The magnitude of the tremor was not recorded as the seismograph installed in Salem district collector's office was out of order. District officials said there was no cause for concern in the area. Meanwhile, Public Works Department officials are carrying out inspection of the dam area. Besides, the tremor was felt in a few places in Dharmapuri district, officials added.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the USA, which conducted an audit of India's aviation watchdog DGCA, has made certain "observations" related to regulatory and guidance material, on which time-bound action will be taken, an official statement said today. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in the statement said the FAA, under its International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) programme, conducted the audit between July 16 and July 20 in areas covering aircraft operations, airworthiness and personnel licensing. It did not elaborate on the observations or the concerns flagged by the US regulator, but said the FAA team will come for a final consultation within 65 days wherein the DGCA shall present the action taken on the observations. "Overall, the audit has been very satisfactory. According to the FAA's established process, a written report will be provided within next 30 days and thereafter an FAA team will come for final consultation within 65 days, wherein .
Japan's severe heatwave killed at least 15 people and sent more than 12,000 to hospital in the first two weeks of July, official figures show as the temperature neared 40 degrees Celsius in many cities today. Twelve people died of heatstroke in the week ending July 15 after three perished in the preceding week, according to latest data. More than 9,900 people were rushed to hospital during the week to mid-July, jumping from 2,700 in the previous week, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said. An Iranian semi-official news agency says a magnitude 5.7 earthquake has jolted a town in the country's south. ISNA says the temblor rocked the town of Ruydar, in Hormozgan province, today. The town is located some 940 kilometers, or 580 miles, south of the capital, Tehran. The United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.4. There was no immediate word on casualties. The quake was shallow, 8 kilometers or 5 miles deep, making it likelier to cause damage. The town of Ruydar has about 8,000 residents. Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to regular earthquakes. A magnitude 7.2 quake hit western Iran in November, killing more than 600. Eight persons including four children were injured after a two-storey residential building collapsed in Mundhwa area here around noon today, police said. A one-year-old girl was among the injured. Building owner Kailash Bhandwalkar, three members of his family and four others from two tenant families were injured, police said. The building, standing by a nullah in Keshavnagar locality, was around 30 years old and in a precarious condition, a police officer said. Incessant rains may have weakened it further, he added. Fire brigade personnel rescued all those who were trapped under the debris, including a one-year-old girl from Bhandwalkar's family. Two buffaloes tied outside the house died as debris fell on them, police said.

A toll plaza employee was today shot dead in Bihar's Vaishali district, police said. The incident occurred at the toll plaza located at Patedha on the Hajipur-Muzaffarpur main road The toll plaza employee identified as Mukesh Kumar (45) was shot dead by one of the four persons in a car which entered the VIP lane at the toll plaza in order to avoid paying toll tax, police said adding that this led to brawl between the toll plaza staff and people in the car. One of the four persons in the car fired at Kumar killing him on the spot, they said adding that he was rushed to a near by hospital where the doctors declared brought him dead. With the recovery of five bodies today, the Indian Coast Guard has recovered 14 of the 19 fishermen who went missing on Monday after their trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal, a top ICG official said. Five bodies were recovered today which were trapped inside the fishing boat Joykrisna. The boat was sighted capsized about 30 nautical miles south of Dalhousie islands and was towed to the coast. The bodies are being identified, the official said. Coast Guard Dornier aircraft from Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, hovercraft from Frazerganj and ICGS Sujoy inspite of inclement weather and rough seas carried out extensive search for missing fishermen.
