19 dead in truck accident in Gujarat
In a fatal accident on Saturday morning, 19 people have lost their lives and seven have been injured after a cement-laden truck in which they were travelling turned turtle on Bhavnagar-Ahmedabad highway, near Bavalyali village in Bhavnagar.Reportedly, after the truck turned turtle, it had fallen into a ditch.The injured passengers have been shifted to a government hospital in Bavayali village and the bodies of the deceased will be sent for an autopsy shortly.The driver fled the spot after the accident occured.More details are awaited.

5 killed in Cambodia lightning strike
Five people, including a four-year-old child, were killed instantly in a lightning strike in southwestern Cambodia, officials said, as the onset of the rainy season draws near. Lucknow: Two arrested, 18 suspended for negligence in purchase of wheat

BMW expands UK car recall again
German car manufacturer BMW today expanded a British safety recall for another 88,000 vehicles because of a fire risk. The announcement -- the second in two weeks -- comes after it had already expanded an initial recall to 312,000 diesel and petrol vehicles on May 9 due to a risk of engines cutting out. It will now examine another 88,000 cars, plus 200,000 cars that were already affected by the earlier safety checks. "BMW has chosen to expand on its existing battery connector recall," a company spokesman said, adding it would replace two wiring connections. Models affected by the latest recall are all 3 Series petrol and diesel cars manufactured from December 2004 and July 2011. The models affected in the May 9 recall are the BMW 1 Series, the 3 Series, the Z4 and its X1 cars that were produced between March 2007 and August 2011. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today directed all the departments concerned to work in coordination and ensure that all the codal formalities regarding allocation of works for construction of roads and bridges were completed within stipulated time. Buses collide inside Lincoln Tunnel; 32 hurt, 7 seriously
A New Jersey Transit bus collided with another inside the Lincoln Tunnel, injuring 32 people including seven with more serious injuries. New Jersey Transit officials say a bus from Wayne, New Jersey, rear-ended bus one from Oradell, New Jersey, at about 9:50 a.m. There were 25 riders aboard the first bus, and 37 on the other. Five of a family dead in accident on Pune-Solapur road
Five members of a family were killed after the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in crashed into another car on the Solapur-Pune road this evening. The accident took place at Dalas village near Bhigwan when the family was returning to Pune after visiting the famous Tuljapur temple, police said. The driver of the SUV lost the control when a tyre burst, and the vehicle jumped the divider and collided with a car coming from the opposite direction before turning turtle. Bhigwan police identified the deceased as Sandeep Prakash Gaikwad (35), his wife Sheetal (32), son Abhiraj (5), father Prakash (67) and mother Sunita (58), all residents of Yamunagar area of Nigdi near Pune. All five died on the spot, police said. Four passengers in the other car received minor injuries.

Drought can be defeated if villagers come together to conserve water, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said while inspecting works done here by the Paani Foundation, an NGO started by actor Aamir Khan. Fadnavis, who was on a tour of Jat taluka in Maharashtra's Sangli district, inspected the water conservation works in Aundhi and Bagalwadi villages in the taluka. "Through the Paani Foundation today, the entire village has come together. I am proud I have been with you," Fadnavis told villagers. Hitting out at previous governments, Fadnavis said that, in the last 50 years, no plan had reached the grassroots level. "About 50 per cent villages in the state face drought. This drought does not end just by building dams. Water conservation works have to be carried out right up to the grassroots level. Today 11,000 villages are drought-free in the state and the figure will go up to 20,000 this year," Fadnavis said.
