IMD issues 72 hours warning about thunderstorm

After a dust storm hit the national capital early today, Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for next 72 hours anticipating similar weather conditions across large parts of north India including Delhi. According to the warning bulletin issued in the morning, "Thunderstorm accompanied withgustywinds (with speed 50-70 kms) verylikely at isolatedplaces overJammu&Kashmir, HimachalPradesh,Uttarakhand,Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh." The same predictions have been made for tomorrow at isolatedplacesoverPunjab, Haryana,Chandigarh,Delhi andUttarPradesh. Police said that an 18-year-old man was killed and 13 people injured in the dust storm that hit the city in the early hours today. The Police Control Room (PCR) received 78 calls during the storm that started around 3 am. As many as 59 calls about fallen trees, five calls about fallen electricity poles and 11 calls about hoardings/wall collapse were received by the PCR, police said. Also, four calls .

Compensation will be given to victims soon: Varanasi District Magistrate

Following the flyover collapse incident, which took place here yesterday, District Magistrate Yogeshwar Mishra on Wednesday said that they are waiting for the findings that will come in an investigation, which is underway."We are waiting for the findings that will come in investigation. Co-pilot sucked half-away out of cockpit, flight lands safely

A Sichuan Airlines co-pilot was "sucked halfway out" of the aircraft's cockpit at 32,000 feet, but the flight managed to make an emergency landing at Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu on Monday, according to several media reports.Captain Liu Chuanjian is being hailed as a hero on Chinese social media after landing the flight manually."There was no sign before the windshield burst. Just a huge noise," Captain Liu was quoted by the state-run China News Service."When I looked at the other side, the co-pilot was partially blown out of the aircraft. Luckily, he had the belt buckled up. Many devices were malfunctioning and the plane was jolting strongly. Man killed and 13 injured in dust storm in Delhi

An 18-year-old man was killed and 13 people injured in the dust storm that hit the national capital in the early hours today, police said. The Police Control Room (PCR) received 78 calls during the storm that started around 3 am. One person was injured in Dwarka while two persons sustained minor injuries in west Delhi during the storm. The deceased was identified as Sohail a resident of North East Delhi's Gokal Puri area. He got injured after a wall collapsed on him while he was sleeping in his house. Four members of his family have also sustained minor injuries, police said. Four persons were injured in east Delhi while two persons sustained minor injuries in south Delhi, they added. As many as 59 calls about fallen trees, five calls about fallen electricity poles and 11 calls about hoardings/wall collapse were received by the PCR, police said. After a massive dust storm hit Delhi-NCR early Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm alert.It also stated that areas of Jind, Rohtak, Panipat, Alwar, Bagpat, Meerut and Aligarh may witness light rain with thunderstorm.Strong winds, accompanied by dust, lashed the city while bringing a sudden decline in the temperature.This comes after the deadly storm on May 13-14 claimed over 80 lives across five states in the country.During that time, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that the thunderstorm will continue for the next 48 to 72 hours.Previously on May 2, at least 100 people died in north India and some other states, owing to thunderstorms.

Andhra boat capsizes: Joint-Rescue effort being conducted

Following the capsize of a boat in the Godavari river on Tuesday, a joint-effort by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Service and Police officials is underway to recover the boat and bodies of the deceased.According to an official statement, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), working under the supervision of the Sub-Collector of East Godavari district's Rampachodavaram, all rescue teams were on the spot and working on the operation.The statement also mentioned that so far, at least 20 families had contacted Government officials with reports of missing cases. Red alert raised after ash bursts from Hawaii volcano

A massive plume of volcanic ash burst from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano today, prompting authorities to issue warnings about air quality and the likelihood of a major eruption. The Hawaiian County Civil Defence Agency said rock falls and gas explosions from one of the craters on Kilauea had caused the ash plume which was drifting downwind to the southwest. Authorities said the ash cloud was as high as 3,000 to 3,600 meters and had prompted a code red aviation alert. They warned that residents in the path of the cloud could experience respiratory problems and urged people to avoid exposure and to drive with caution. China, Airbus investigating blown-out windshield on plane

Chinese authorities and Airbus are investigating why a plane's cockpit window detached during a flight, forcing an emergency landing. Sichuan Airlines Flight 3U8633 was en route from Chongqing, China, to Lhasa, Tibet, on Monday morning when the cockpit window on the A319 jet broke off, according to the website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The co-pilot's seatbelt prevented him from being sucked out of the plane. The plane made an emergency landing in Chengdu, China. 1 dead, 3 hurt in Southern California building explosion

An explosion rocked a Southern California office building today, killing one person and injuring three others, authorities said. Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy said 70 firefighters were dispatched in response to a 1:09 pm (local time) call from Aliso Viejo today. The blast involved a building under renovation but the cause was not immediately known, Fennessey said. The explosion blew siding off the walls, exposing insulation and framing. Hazardous materials investigators were on the scene. "The corner of that building, the whole bottom floor is pretty much blown out," fire Captain Tony Bommarito said. There was no immediate information about the person who was killed. The injured were taken to a hospital. Fennessey said children at a daycare across the street were not injured. Little children holding hands and others being pushed in rolling cribs were led by firefighters to a Target parking lot to be united with parents.

A portion of a flyover being built by a state-run corporation collapsed on a busy road in Varanasi today, killing at least 18 people as it crushed a mini bus, cars and two-wheelers.
