Maersk ship catches fire near Lakshadweep

A Maersk container ship, with 27 crew members on board including 13 Indians, caught fire in the Arabian Sea near Lakshadweep Islands last night, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) said today. Four of the ship's crew members are missing while the others have been rescued, it said. The 330-metre-long Maersk Honam, which was en route to Suez from Singapore caught fire last night with flames from the main deck of the ship rising up to its bridge (a height of about 25 metres), it said in a statement. The vessel reported an explosion and fire on board and requestedimmediate assistance. The ship was at a distance of 570 kms (340 nautical miles)from Agatti in the Lakshwadeep Islands. The Coast Guard has pressed into action its assets for the rescue operation, it said. "The ship had 27 crew members on board, of whom four are missing. Bus with 50 onboard falls off flyover

A bus carrying 50 people fell off from a flyover in Cyberabad here on Wednesday morning.However, no one was injured except one.The people in the bus alleged that driver drove the bus in the wrong route which has led to the accident.According to Balnagar DCP the bus driver fell unconscious due to ill health while he was passing through Bharat Nagar bridge because of which, he entered the wrong route.The bus was hanging on the edge of the flyover when all the passengers jumped out to save their lives and the empty bus fell from the edge.

Death toll in Russian plane crash rises to 39

The death toll of the Russian passenger plane that crashed in Syria on Tuesday, has risen to 39, Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed.Earlier, the defence ministry said that 32 passengers were killed in the crash."Russia's Antonov An-26 transport plane that crashed while landing at Hmeymim airfield in Latakia in Syria was carrying six crew members and 33 passengers. Their families will be provided with the necessary assistance and support," the defence ministry was quoted by TASS as saying.According to the updated information, there were 33 passengers and six crew members aboard the aircraft. All of them were military servicemen from the Russian Armed Forces, it added.The plane crashlanded when it was about 500 meters short of the runway. Truck driver found guilty of killing 8 Indians in UK crash

A truck driver was today found guilty of causing the deaths of eight Indians in one of Britain's worst road accidents last year. Ryszard Masierak, a 31-year-old Polish national, was convicted at the end of a trial at Reading Crown Court. The jury heard that he was two times over the legal drink-drive limit and had stopped in the inside lane of the highway when he was involved in the crash with a minibus and another truck near Newport Pagnell in southern England on August 26. He had denied the charges of causing the deaths of Nottingham-based Keralite minibus driver Cyriac Joseph and seven of his passengers all Indians. The mjunction services limited today said it will implement e-distribution of coal in Bihar. The designated state-nominated agency, Bihar State Mining Corporation (BSMC), has appointed the mjunction, for implementation of coal e-distribution in the state. The company said it has already implemented similar projects in West Bengal and Maharashtra. "This will enable MSME consumers to buy coal from BSMC in a fair and convenient manner without middlemen or agents," mjunction said in a statement. Distribution of coal to MSMEs in Bihar will be reinstated after nearly seven years, and Coal India's allocated quantity of coal to the state for this purpose is 3.85 lakh tonnes per annum, mjunction said. Metro rail network likely to cross 700 km in few years:Puri

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said today that the metro rail network in the county was expected to cross 700 km in the next few years. Addressing an event here, the housing and urban affairs minister said from just 8 km in 2002, as many as 425 km of metro lines are operational as of now in 10 different cities across the country. He also called for the need to devise technologies that would hep in constructing and operating metro systems in sustainable manner in the country. "With many cities planning for metro rail and in next few years, the network length of the Metro in India is expected to cross 700 km," said an official release, quoting the minister. In addition to this, regional rail transit systems are also being planned to unclog the cities, the minister said. He said Delhi Metro, with an operational network of 231 km, was carrying three million people every day and expressed confidence that within a year the network length in the National Capital Region will cross the 350 .

4 killed as truck hits car in UP

Four people were killed and three others injured when their car met with an accident in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district early today, the police said. The victims were returning to Gorakhpur after attending a wedding here. The driver lost control of the vehicle and dashed it into a roadside tree, after a truck hit it from behind near Pipra village under Rudrapur police station, a police official said. Telhu Sonekar (50), Shrawan Patwa (38), Dharamvir Sonekar (33) and Laloo Jaiswal (28) died on the spot, the official said, adding that the three injured have been admitted to a hospital.

32 people were killed after a Russian cargo plane crashed in Syria, the Russian defence ministry said on Tuesday.Russia's Antonov-26 transport plane crashed at about 3 pm (Moscow time) when it was about to land at the Khmeimim Air Base in the coastal city of Latakia, the defence ministry was quoted by TASS as saying.According to preliminary data, there were 26 passengers and six crew members on board.The defence ministry is investigating the cause of the crash, but according to sources, the crash might have happened due to a technical malfunction.
