Mere charge of negligence can't warrant payout in accidental

Observing that a mere allegation of negligence could not warrant payment of compensation in cases of accidental death, the Bombay High Court rejected a plea filed by a city resident seeking compensation from Reliance Infrastructure for the death of her son due to electrocution. A bench of justices S C Dharmadhikari and Bharati Dangre recently dismissed the writ petition filed by a Chembur resident. The woman alleged that in 2010 her 17-year-old son died in an accident caused by the negligence of Reliance Infrastructure's power distribution company--Bombay Suburban Electricity Supplier--now known as Reliance Energy. The bench said a plea seeking payment of compensation for the death of a person by electrocution could be maintainable only if the petitioner succeeded in producing "undisputed facts" that clearly revealed an instance of negligence. The petitioner, Noorja Khan, alleged that few days before the accident that occurred in June 2010, Reliance Energy had been ...

"We're on stand-by through Tuesday," Public Works Minister Tony Muller said Saturday as the 30,000 population of Majuro Atoll braced for the expected floods. Fire in suburban train coach at Dadar, no injuries to

Thousands of Central Railway commuters were inconvenienced after a fire broke out in one of the coaches of a suburban train at Dadar station around 9:24pm today. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management unit said that the fire had been doused and there were no injuries to any commuter. A CR spokesperson said that the fire emanated underneath one of the coaches and it was possibly a case of brake binding, a technical problem where the brake gets jammed, leading to friction, fire and smoke. He added that three trains moving towards the suburbs were affected and they had to be diverted to the fast line between Byculla and Kurla. Chief public relations officer of CR, Sunil Udasi said, "It was a rake made by BHEL. There was a minor fire which was immediately brought under control. The coach was empty. The down slow traffic was diverted to down fast line." "The train was cleared in 10 minutes and down slow traffic will also be restored on its normal path," .
