As many as 16 scrap godowns were gutted in a fire in the industrial Bhiwandi township of the district this morning, an official said. No injury or casualty was reported in the blaze. The fire broke out in the Gayatri Nagar locality where a few huts also suffered damages in the mishap, he said. The fire fighters from Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar townships rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze, Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam said. Four people sustained burn injuries on Tuesday after a fire broke out at a flour mill in Thane district's Dongri city.Reportedly, the mill, located in Dongri's Mohommadi Manzil, caught fire in the afternoon after which a fire tender was called to douse it.A probe has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident.
Firefighters recovered the bodies of three people who died in a house fire today and continued to search for a fourth victim. Crews needed heavy equipment to take apart and stabilise the heavily damaged house before it was safe to go inside, said fire department spokesman Mike Norman. They also were careful to preserve potential evidence for the investigation into the cause of the fire, Norman said. Five pilgrims, including two women, died and seven others were injured in Shahjahanpur district on Tuesday when a truck collided with a tractor-trolley in which they were travelling.The injured have been admitted to the district hospital, where the condition of the two remains critical."All our surgeons are present here at the moment. A major train accident has been averted today due to alertness of a gateman and quick reaction by drivers of a goods train in Odisha. However, one of the wagons of the goods train carrying dolomite jumped the rail between Balugaon and Chilka stations in Khurda Road-Brahmapur railway section of the East Coast Railway, a statement by the railway said. When the goods train was passing near Balugaon level crossing, on-duty gateman BK Sethi noticed a problem in a particular wagon and alerted the driver and co-loco-pilot. The train was immediately stopped, resulting in the derailment of all wheels of one wagon, blocking the up line. There is no injury or casualty to anybody due to the derailment, the release said. Four people received minor burn injuries in a fire in a flour mill here today, a civic official said. The fire was reported in the afternoon in a flour mill in Dongri area, said the official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell. Fire Brigade personnel were rushed to the spot and they doused the blaze immediately, he said. Four people received minor burn injuries and they were rushed to the nearby state-run J J Hospital for treatment, the official said. "Our preliminary investigations suggested the fire was caused by a short-circuit. However, the same can be confirmed only after a proper investigation, " added official. Meanwhile, the doctors' hostel at J J Hospital plunged into darkness for an hour after its power supply got snapped due to a short-circuit, another official said. The short circuit was reported at 8.32 pm and electricity was restored within an hour, he said, adding there was no impact on medical services at the hospital.

Jammu and Kashmir minister Sham Lal Choudhary tonight said the state government has set for itself three major goals of providing safe drinking water, harnessing and conserving water resources, and protecting life, land and property from floods. To provide drinking water for all, he said the government has set a target of completing 183 water supply schemes with a corpus of Rs 306.26 crore during 2017-18. The minister for public health engineering (PHE), irrigation and flood control (I&FC), said the water supply schemes will benefit around 2.29 lakh people in the state. Winding up a discussion on demand for grants of PHE, I&FC departments in the Legislative Assembly, he said the state government is making all efforts for creating dependable infrastructures to improve and augment these services. Regarding augmentation of water supply in urban areas, Choudhary said to meet shortfall and future demand of drinking water supply in Srinagar City, two schemes were taken .

One person was killed when the tractor trolley he was driving got hit by Assam-bound Rajdhani Express at an unmanned railway crossing in the district today, an official said. The tractor had crossed the railway track near Vidyapatidham station but the attached trolley was stuck in the track, RPF Assistant Commandant Kumar Surendra Sharma said. The tractor was hurled several metres away by the impact of the collision, grievously injuring its 55-year-old driver Lakhan Rai who succumbed to injuries at a hospital later, Sharma said. The trolley had got entwined with the train's engine and the Rajdhani Express could resume its journey only after the mangled heap of metal was removed, the RPF official said. Rail traffic was affected on the line for a few hours as local people squatted on the tracks demanding that gates be installed at the unmanned crossing, he said.

The accident occurred near Chapri village under Ramkanda police station area when the labourers were returning home in Garwah after harvesting in Aurangabad of Bihar. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today ordered the inspection of a bridge from which a public transport bus plummeted into the Gogra canal in Murshidabad district, killing at least 41 passengers. Banerjee also directed the district authorities to put up speed restrictions on the road. The bus had rammed into the bridge early yesterday and fallen deep into the canal. The bodies of 41 passengers had been found so far from the canal. Eight people are believed to have been injured in the accident. The chief minister, who had visited the spot soon after the incident and stayed in the town overnight, said the condition of the bridge had to be examined. "An inspection of the condition of the bridge must be conducted. And speed-breakers must be installed in and around the area ... That is really needed," she told reporters here.
