The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) Tuesday began their two-day strike in solidarity with the nationwide strike called by central trade unions. The JNUSU said their strike was successful on day one despite an email by the JNU registrar to all students calling the JNUSU a group of "self-proclaimed leaders". Students rallied behind the union to ensure that the strike, which is also against a series of assaults by the administration on campus in the past three years, was a successful one, the JNUSU claimed. Students participated in the strike successfully, showing solidarity with workers and against the vice-chancellor's "lies and financial corruption", it added. The JNUSU is yet to be notified, with the administration saying proper bills of election expenditures are yet to be submitted.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted approval to Pawan Hans Limited to run a course in Aeronautics and Aircraft Maintenance engineering at the Jamia Millia Islamia, the varsity said Tuesday. The DGCA granted CAR-147(Basic) approval under B1.3(Helicopter-Turbine) and B2 (Avionics) category to Pawan Hans Limited to run the B.Sc Aeronautics and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course at the varsity, they said. West Bengal government Tuesday asked vice-chancellors of various universities of the state to properly inform students about the minimum attendance needed under Choice Based Credit System for appearing for semester examinations. "I have asked the VCs to ensure that the students (of universities and affiliated colleges) are alerted in no uncertain terms that attendance is essential from the day of admission," Education minister Partha Chatterjee said. He was briefing reporters on deliberations at a meeting attended by VCs and registrars of state-run universities. Referring to the agitation by a section of students over the issue in some colleges recently, Chatterjee said the agitators had claimed about not being properly intimated about the attendance requirement by their institute beforehand. The Punjab government Tuesday sought Canada's cooperation for the development of animal husbandry sector in the state. Justice Suresh Kait also sought reply of DAV College Managing Committee and DAV Public School, Rohini, on the petition filed by the employees, including teachers, instructors, librarians and maids, seeking payment of revised allowance and other benefits as per the 7th Pay Commission with effect from January 1, 2016. A man in China attacked children inside a Beijing primary school, injuring 20 of them, state media reported Tuesday. The attacker, whose motive was not immediately known, has been arrested, CGTN news channel reported. The condition of three of the children is said to be critical. All injured have been hospitalised. The incident took place around 11:17 AM (local time) at the elementary school in central Beijing's Xicheng district.
