Telangana: TDP releases manifesto, aims to turn 'Pragathi Bhavan' into public hospital

Telangana Telugu Desam party president L. Ramana on Wednesday released the party's manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Hyderabad. JNUSU accuses varsity admin of not releasing pending scholarship fund

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) accused the varsity administration Wednesday of not releasing over Rs 50 lakh pending Merit-cum-Means scholarship to undergraduate and postgraduate students from the last eight months. Some administration officials denied having knowledge about it. The JNU administration has not released pending Merit-cum-Means scholarship to BA-MA students from the past eight months, the JNUSU said. "The JNU administration, which has money to call likes of Sri Sri and Sadhguru to JNU and hold grand events diverting and spending students money, has not been releasing Rs 50 lakh scholarship amount pending over last eight months," the JNUSU said. 'Was not given admit card for accusing students' body head of furnishing fake marksheet'

A student of Delhi University's Swami Shraddhanand College in outer Delhi has alleged that she was denied an admit card and that she has been receiving threats after she approached the university administration, accusing the students' union president of the college of furnishing a fake marksheet for getting admission. Riya Gulati, a third-year BA student, said she was facing continuous threats from the brother of the students' union president, while claiming that she was denied an admit card by the college principal even though others in her class had already received their admit cards. "The college union president does not have the marks needed for admission to the university. After I complained about her to the university administration, the principal told me that he had received RTI queries about my admission. The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) will enable 200 student-artists participate alongside the fourth edition of the sub-continent's biggest contemporary art festival beginning December 12. Under the Students' Biennale 2018, nearly 80 private and public art schools from India and South Asia will be involved in more than 100 projects in individual or group-based formats, a KBF release said here Wednesday. The HRD Ministry Wednesday established an innovation cell at the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) with an aim to brainstorm new ideas about promoting innovation in all higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country. EDMC suspends teacher after alleged 'head massage' incident

East Delhi Municipal Corporation has suspended a teacher over reports that the instructor allegedly received a "head massage from a student", officials said Tuesday. The EDMC, in a statement said, it has taken cognisance of media reports regarding the alleged incident and "suspended the assistant teacher of EDMC Primary School, Sadatpur (second shift), with immediate effect". Such incidents are "not acceptable and cannot be tolerated", EDMC's Additional Commissioner, Alka Sharma was quote as saying in the statement. "If anyone is found involved in such activity, he would be dealt with strictly," she said, adding, the EDMC is committed to providing quality education in its schools.

Fake degree row: FIR registered against ABVP's ex-DUSU prez Ankiv Baisoya

The Delhi Police has on Tuesday registered an FIR against ABVP's ex-DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya, for allegedly furnishing a fake degree to get admission in the Delhi University. The university authorities had filed a police complaint in connection with the matter on Monday. According to the complaint filed by K T S Sarao, the head of the Buddhist Studies department, Baisoya had appeared in the entrance examination conducted nationally by the university for admission in the masters course. "After qualifying in this examination, Baisoya took admission in MA Buddhist Studies, Part I, and submitted six marksheets of six semesters of Bachelor of Arts degree from Thiruvalluvar University. Maha mulling making Marathi compulsory in all schools: Tawde

The Maharashtra government is mulling making Marathi compulsory from Class I to X in all schools, state Education Minister Vinod Tawde said in the Legislative Council Tuesday. He said this in a written reply to a question by Sena MLA Vilas Potnis which contended that states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala had made their local languages compulsory in schools from Class I to X. Potnis had sought to know what action the Maharashtra government had taken on demands made here to make Marathi compulsory in schools. In his response, Tawde said, "The proposal is under consideration of the government." Later speaking to reporters, Tawde said making Marathi compulsory in all schools was "difficult".
