Sruthi Palaniappan, 20, whose parents migrated to the US from Chennai in 1992, was elected as president of the Harvard University Undergraduate Council. Her running mate Julia Huesa, 20, was elected as vice president, according to an announcement by the Undergraduate Council Election Commission. At least 12 girls studying at a tribal welfare school at Annapureddipalli in Kothagudem district allegedly fell ill after consuming unhygienic food.According to the District Medical and Health Officer Bhaskar, all the girls of class VI complained of stomach ache after they consumed food at the school on Monday afternoon.They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.The District Medical officer further said, "All the students are safe and out of danger. The principle of the school was in Hyderabad for a training program when the incident took place."An inquiry has been initiated in the matter.
Days after cancelling his admission, the Delhi University (DU) on Monday filed a police complaint against Ankiv Baisoya for submitting fake educational certificates to get admission in the university.

Delhi University filed a police complaint Monday in connection with the alleged fake degree submitted by ABVP's Ankiv Baisoya, who recently resigned as the DUSU president a day after his admission was cancelled by the varsity. Speaking at the 95th convocation of the varsity, DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi had said the university has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. "We have been able to make the process of admission transparent by the distinctive efforts of those who are at the helm of affairs. Although some cases of malpractices have come to our notice, we have the process of accountability in place and a strong resolve to take corrective measures and we would not like any delinquent in the admission process to go scot-free," Tyagi said. West Bengal Education minister Partha Chatterjee Monday said the demand by students of Presidency University for being accommodated in the Hindu Hostel, being repaired by the state PWD for over three years, at the earliest is just and cannot be ignored for long. A section of Presidency University students started a sit-in demonstration in the main building of the varsity from November 15 demanding immediate accommodation in the hostel. It has to be remembered that these students have been patiently waiting for the repair and renovation work to be over for three years, Chatterjee told reporters here. The principal of a government primary school here was killed Monday after the boundary wall on the premises collapse on her, police said. Sharda Singh (55), the principal of government primary school Kasarwal in Sahjanwa block, was killed when the boundary wall near her collapsed, they said. She was rushed to hospital where she died during treatment. "The principal died during treatment in BRD Medical college and prima facie, the reason behind her death is school boundary collapse," Sahjanwa SHO Satya Prakash Singh said. A prominent Indian-origin professor in the US has been accused of exploiting his students as servants and compelling them to do his personal work, an American daily has claimed. Ashim Mitra, a longtime pharmacy professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, made his students tend his lawn, look after his dog and water the house plants, sometimes for weeks at a time when he and his wife were away, the Kansas City Star reported. The parents of students of a school at Islampur in North Dianjpur district on Sunday gheraoed the district inspector and blocked roads in protest against the move of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education to derecognise the institution, officials said. A board official confirmed that Saraswati Sishu Mandir had been derecognised on November 15 for not abiding to certain regulations laid down by it, but did not elaborate on the matter. A district official said a section of the parents gheraoed the DI for some time, as he came to the school on Sunday afternoon to discuss the situation. They also blocked the nearby highway, disrupting traffic, he said. The protesters dispersed only after the DI assured that the school education department will ensure students of the institution will not face any problem in sitting for board examinations.
