Three boys Sunday died after they drowned in a construction pit in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district. Police said that the three boys, between 10-12 years of age, had drowned in a pit dug up in connection with the construction of a state-run hostel in Pandharkawada area here. He identified them as Adesh Balaseheb Rathod, Sanchetan Shyamkiran Rathod and Siddhesh Vikas Mogarkar, all students of a local school. A case has been registered and further investigations were underway, the official said.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit Saturday chaired the ninth state-level monitoring committee meet to eradicate ragging in educational institutions and advised further strengthening of the mechanism. The Vice-Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in West Bengal's Nadia district fell ill on Saturday after he was gheraoed by the students for 24-hours in his office, officials said. At least 25 school students complained of nausea, stomach ache and fever after being administered measles vaccine Saturday in Assam's Hailakandi district, officials said. The students of Sahabad ME Madrasa under Katlicherra revenue circle were administered measles rubella (MR) just after the mid-day meal following which several of them complained of nausea, fever, stomach ache and vomiting, Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan said. The students were taken to the nearby Katlicherra Block Public Health Centre for treatment. However, their condition is stated to be stable and there was no reason to panic, officials said. Joint Director, Health Services, Avijit Basu said that six students have been hospitalised while the rest have been kept under observation and would be discharged soon. The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a high-level committee to probe into irregularities in the recruitment examination held for 68,500 assistant teachers and suspended a top official of exam regulatory authority, officials said Saturday. In the exam, whose results were declared in August, more than one lakh aspirants had appeared, but only 41,556 could clear it. A government spokesperson said, "In this examination, a list of 23 examinees was obtained, who had not cleared the examination, but were declared as qualified." : A conductor with the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly misbehaving with college girls on a moving bus, police said. Ayyappan (31) was accused of singing obscene songs and passing lewd remarks on the girl students commuting to college, the police said. The students, unable to bear with the harassment had complained to their college authorities, they said. On Friday evening, Ayyappan allegedly indulged in misdemeanour and the girls got together, caught hold of Ayyappan and handed him over to the police. On learning this, some employees of the transport corporation and trade unionists visited the police station where the conductor was taken to and asked the students to withdraw the complaint. But the students insisted that the conductor be arrested. Following this, a case was registered by the police and Ayyappan was held after enquiry.

A Southeast Texas school district says three students took control of a moving school bus after the driver became unconscious and later died. The Sealy school district said Friday that bus driver Gerald Gardner had just picked up students at a junior high school and was leaving the campus when he lost consciousness. The three students took the wheel and safely parked the bus. District officials say three other individuals arrived at the scene and performed CPR on Gardner after taking him off the bus. Gardner was later pronounced dead. A cause of death was not immediately known. In a statement, the school district says it was "extremely grateful" for Gardner's years of service.
