Co-education reason of closure of Afghan universities': Taliban minister

Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan, Abdul Baqi Haqqani on Sunday said that the reason behind the closure of universities is co-education and economic crisis.The Taliban minister said that they have to make separate classes for girls and hire extra lecturers that need more time and extra budget, reported Khaama Press.Haqqani was on a visit to Pakistan recently discussed the problems of Afghan students with Islamabad officials and relevant administrations."We discussed the problems of Afghan students and we were given assurance by Pakistani officials. Pakistan increased yearly scholarships for Afghan students by 500. Afghanistan will be provided 1,500 scholarships every year," said Haqqani.Meanwhile, Haqqani also said that no country will be allowed to grant scholarships directly to people and that the scholarships will be managed through the ministry of higher education, reported Khaama Press.He had suggested building independent universities for Afghan refugees in ...

Five-member committee to take decisions on university appointments: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday said a five-member committee will be constituted for taking decisions regarding appointments to different posts in universities of the state. Speaking in the state assembly, he noted that the committee will include chancellor (Governor), principal secretary of Higher Education Department, and vice chancellors of three universities. The chief minister said instructions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) will be complied with. The appointments in universities will be done in a transparent manner and on the basis of merit only, he said. The autonomy of universities will remain intact, he asserted. Khattar was answering questions raised by the opposition during the Winter Session of Vidhan Sabha. Illiteracy challenge for India: Naidu stresses on need for adult education

Stressing the need for greater attention to adult education, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said a country cannot claim itself to be developed if even 15 per cent of its population is not educated."We're proving ourselves the best in IT and moving towards digitalization but basic adult education needs greater attention. A country cannot claim itself to be developed if even 15% of its population is not educated. It is a challenge for the country and leadership," said Naidu."We have made significant strides in the field of education over the past 7 decades. However, there still exists a huge imbalance in basic literacy skills in our society. This is a cause of concern," he added.Calling for eradicating illiteracy in mission mode, Naidu advised the schools to encourage their students to begin adult education drives in their areas on weekends. "Students should be given some extra marks for such activities," he said.Naidu made the following comments after presenting the Nehru and Tagore .
