Record proposals submitted under India's first scheme for non-semiconductor electronic components are likely to double local value addition in the production of finished goods to up to 40 per cent over the next five years, according to industry body Elcina. The electronics component makers' body has urged state governments to enhance ease of doing business to support the Centre's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). ECMS has received investment proposals worth Rs 1.15 lakh crore, which is more than double the target of Rs 59,000 crore envisaged under the scheme. "This is a game changer and has the potential to boost value addition of India's electronics manufacturing eco-system from the current 15-20 per cent to 35-40 per cent over the next 5 years and beyond," Elcina Secretary General Rajoo Goel said in a statement. Karnataka government's department of Electronics, IT, and BT on Monday unveiled a Rs 1,000 crore "LEAP" programme to drive innovation across the state, catalysing growth beyond Bengaluru. The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved an electronics component manufacturing policy with an investment target of Rs 5,000 crore to promote production of 11 key components such as displays and camera modules. The policy, aligned with the Centre's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), will come into effect from April 1, 2025, for a period of six years, according to an official statement. The Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025 (UP ECMP-2025) aims to promote the production of 11 key electronic components including displays, camera modules, and multilayer PCBs, with an investment target of Rs 5,000 crore and the potential to create lakhs of jobs, it stated. To attract investment, the Odisha government on Monday approved Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy and IT Policy, an official said. The state cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, this evening has approved the two policies. The Electronics Component Manufacturing policy aims to generate high-skilled employment opportunities while reducing India's reliance on imported electronic components, said chief secretary Manoj Ahuja. The policy offers a comprehensive incentive framework that includes fully matching the central government's electronics component manufacturing scheme (ECMS) support, he said. Under the policy, investors can avail a 50 per cent capital subsidy for the first 10 large-scale projects or select a matching subsidy along with turnover-linked incentives and additional capital subsidies, Ahuja said. Dixon Tech, China's HKC form ₹370 cr JV for display module manufacturing

Domestic electronics contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies has formed a Rs 370 crore joint venture for display modules manufacturing with Chinese company HKC Overseas. The Dixon Technologies-HKC Overseas joint venture is for manufacturing and selling of LCD and TFT-LCD modules that are used in electronic devices like TV, mobile phones etc for display, a regulatory filing said on Saturday. "Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd has entered into a Term Sheet with HKC Corporation Ltd to form a joint venture for manufacturing of Liquid Crystal Modules, thin film transistor liquid crystal display modules, assembly of end products such as smartphones, TVs, monitors and auto displays and selling HKC branded end products in India," the filing said. No additional tariffs by US on Indian pharma, electronics so far: Govt

The government on Tuesday said no additional tariffs have been imposed on Indian exports to the US in sectors like pharmaceuticals, and electronics so far. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said reciprocal tariff at the rate of 25 per cent has been imposed on certain goods exported from India to the US, effective August 7. It is estimated that around 55 per cent of the total value of India's merchandise exports to the US is subjected to this reciprocal tariff, he said, adding that additional ad valorem rate of duty of 25 per cent with effect from August 27 has been imposed on certain goods exported from India. "No additional tariffs have been imposed on Indian exports to the US in sectors like pharmaceuticals, and electronics as yet," Prasada said. India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) on Monday underlined the need for focusing on industrial and infrastructure electronics to achieve the USD 500 billion electronics manufacturing target by 2030-31.
