Russell Crowe to star as Roger Ailes in Showtime miniseries

Hollywood star Russell Crowe has been roped in to play Fox News founder and chairman Roger Ailes in a new miniseries for Showtime, the network has announced. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series, which will run for eight episodes, is based the reporting by journalist and Ailes biographer Gabriel Sherman, who wrote, "The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News -- and Divided a Country." Sherman, who interviewed more than 600 people for his book, co-wrote the pilot alongside Tom McCarthy. The project is being executive produced by Emmy winner Jason Blum and is a co-production between Showtime and Blum's Blumhouse Television. "In many ways, the collision between the media and politics has come to define the world we live in today. We've seen this phenomenon depicted on screen as far back as the story of Charles Foster Kane, and it finds contemporary embodiment in the rise and fall of Roger Ailes. Google Doodle celebrates noted singer Gauhar Jaan's birth anniversary

Google Doodle on Wednesday marked the 145th birth anniversary of noted Indian dancer and singer Gauhar Jaan.Born on June 26 in 1873, she was the first Indian to record music on 78 rpm records in the country. She was also signed by the famous Gramophone Company in India.The legendary Hindustani classical music singer's real name was Angelina Yeoward. Her grandmother was a Hindu and her grandfather was a British.Later in 1880s, Angelina converted to Islam along with her mother and became Gauhar Jaan.Besides being noted for her bhajan performances, Gauhar also popularised light Hindustani classical music with her kajri, chaiti, thumri, dadra and tarana renditions.Her most famous songs are 'Mora Nahak Laye gavanava', 'Jabse Gaye mori sur huna live', 'Ras ke Bhare Tore Nain mere Dard-e-jigar'.She died at the age of 56 on January 17, 1930.

T I to join Eddie Murphy in 'Dolemite Is My Name!'

Hip-hop artiste-turned-actor T I is in negotiations to join Eddie Murphy in Netflix's "Dolemite Is My Name!", the biopic of envelope-pushing comedian and film producer Rudy Ray Moore. Murphy is starring as Moore in the project, which began filming last week with Craig Brewer directing, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The cast already includes Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. In what is described as a flashy and funny role, T I would play a movie producer. Davis Entertainment's John Davis and John Fox are producing "Dolemite Is My Name!" along with Murphy.

Music lessons can improve language skills in kids

Taking music lesson, especially piano, can improve language skills in kindergartners, MIT scientists have found. Many studies have shown that musical training can enhance language skills. However, it was unknown whether music lessons improve general cognitive ability, leading to better language proficiency, or if the effect of music is more specific to language processing. Researchers found that piano lessons have a very specific effect on kindergartners' ability to distinguish different pitches, which translates into an improvement in discriminating between spoken words. However, the piano lessons did not appear to confer any benefit for overall cognitive ability, as measured by IQ, attention span, and working memory. "The children didn't differ in the more broad cognitive measures, but they did show some improvements in word discrimination, particularly for consonants. Rebel Wilson to star in and produce comic book adaptation 'Crowded'

Actor-comedian Rebel Wilson has bought the rights to "Crowded", an upcoming Image Comics publication, and is planning to star in as well as produce the movie adaptation of the same. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wilson will develop the project and produce it via her Camp Sugar production banner. "Crowded," written by Christopher Sebela and drawn by Ro Stein and Ted Brandt, is set in a near future where the world's economy is all job sharing and apps and where a crowdfunding platform that funds assassinations named Reapr is all the rage. Teach Grant to play adult Henry Bowers in 'It: Chapter 2'

Actor Teach Grant and Jess Weixler have joined the cast of New Line's "It: Chapter Two". Grant will play bully Henry Bowers, who was portrayed by Nicholas Hamilton in the first movie, and Weixler will play Bill's wife, reported Variety. The sequel also stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader. Bill Skarsgard is also set to return as Pennywise. Director Andy Muschietti is directing the project, with Gary Dauberman penning the script. The sequel is set to release on September 6, 2019, with production expected to start this soon. South African Indian cinema mogul Moosa passes away

South African Indian cinema doyen Moosa Moosa has passed away. He was 75. Moosa succumbed to a heart attack on Sunday after undergoing surgery. He was buried here yesterday according to Muslim rites.
