Documentary on Liam Gallagher to screen at Cannes Film Festival

A new documentary based on the life of rocker Liam Gallagher will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. The film "Liam Gallagher: As It Was", which is currently in production, narrates the "emotional story of how one of the greatest rock frontmen went from the dizzying heights of his champagne supernova years in Oasis to living on the edge ostracised lost in the musical wilderness of boredom, booze and bitter legal battles", according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will be directed by Charlie Lightening, who has worked with Gallagher previously on Beady Eye videos and on his video for "Chinatown". "'As It Was' is a documentary about my musical comeback. It covers the writing and recording of my first solo album, right through to playing it live for the first time in my hometown of Manchester and around the world," Gallagher said in a statement. Umar Thurman willing to work with Tarantino again

Uma Thurman has said she always shared a "good relationship" with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and is open to working with him once again if he wrote "a good part" for her. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 48-year-old actor was asked whether she is open to working with the director despite the recent revelation about the car crash that happened on the sets of "Kill Bill". "If he wrote a great part! I understand him and if he wrote a great part and we were both in the right place about it, that would be something else," Thurman said. Earlier this year, Thurman had said in an article that she suffered severe injuries after she was pressured into driving a stunt car she did not feel comfortable operating on the sets of Tarantino's film. The director, on his part, had admitted that he still blames himself for convincing Thurman to sit in the car and called the incident "one of the biggest regrets of my life". JJ Abrams to produce superhero film 'The Heavy'

Filmmaker JJ Abrams is all set to make his production debut in the superhero genre with the film "The Heavy". The 51-year-old producer-director, known for films such as "Cloverfield", "Star Trek" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", will once again collaborate with director Julius Avery, who is in negotiations to helm the new film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams will produce the project, which has been described as a subversive interpretation of the superhero genre. The script has been penned by Daniel Casey and no additional details of the project are known as of yet. Abrams and Avery recently worked on supernatural World War II thriller "Overlord", which is due to hit theatres on October 26.

Jenny Slate to star in 'The Sunlit Night'

Actor Jenny Slate will be producing and starring in the drama "The Sunlit Night". The 36-year-old actor will be joined by Zach Galifianakis, Gillian Anderson, and Jessica Hecht in the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tony Award winner Alex Sharp, known for films such as "To the Bone" and "How to Talk to Girls at Parties", will also appear in the film. The film has been adapted from Rebecca Dinerstein's debut novel of the same name and is set between New York City and the far north of Norway. It follows American painter Frances and emigre Yasha, an unlikely pair who find each other in the Arctic circle. Frances has arrived to jump-start her career, while Yasha has come to bury his father in the land of the Vikings. Together under a sun that never quite sets, they let go of the past and discover the future, and family, they did not know they had. Fabian Gasmia, Ruben Thorkildsen, Michael B Clark and Alex Turtletaub are on board the project as producers.

Mandy Moore in talks to star in 'Midway'

Actor-singer Mandy Moore is in negotiations to join the cast of World War II drama "Midway". The film, to be directed by Roland Emmerich, is about the Battle of Midway and follows the soldiers and aviators who helped turn the tide of the war in June 1942. "Solo: A Star Wars Story" actor Woody Harrelson is also in talks to the join the cast, Deadline reported. The screenplay has been written by Wes Tooke and Emmerich is also producing the project along with Harald Kloser and Mark Gordon. The film is in the pre-production stage and principal photography is expected to start in August.

Michelle Obama urged women not to expect a miracle candidate to "save" America today, indicating again she has no plans to run for president as some have speculated. I&B ministry mulls sending nat film awards to 'protesting' winners via post

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is contemplating to send the citations, medals and cheques to over 50 absentee awardees at the 65th National Film Awards this year, through post. The National Film Awards were presented on May 3 in the national capital, but many recipients decided to "boycott" the ceremony over the president handing over the honour to only a select set of winners. "The ministry is contemplating to send the National Film Awards to those who missed the function, through post. A decision regarding it will be taken soon," ministry sources said. They said it was not a new practice to send the awards via post to those who missed the event due to any reason. In a departure from tradition, the function, held at Vigyan Bhavan, was divided into two phases.
