'Pet Sematary' remake casts 'The Crown' star John Lithgow
Veteran actor John Lithgow has boarded the cast of "Pet Sematary" remake. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novel of the same name, which was also the basis for a 1989 feature film. "The Crown" actor will play Jud Crandall, a kindly neighbour to a big city family that moves into the country, in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Everest" star Jason Clarke is already aboard the project and will be portraying the role of Louis Creed, which was portrayed by Dale Midkiff in the 1989 movie. The story follows Creed, who tries to bring back his dead son by placing him to rest in an Indian burial ground but it does not go according to plan. Filmmaker duo Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch will direct the film with a script from Jeff Buhler, reported Variety. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Steven Schneider are producing with Alexandra Loewy executive producing.
Patty Jenkins to receive 2018 Women in Motion Award at Cannes Film Festival
Director Patty Jenkins will receive the 2018 Women In Motion award during the Cannes Film Festival. The "Wonder Woman" helmer will receive the honour from festival president Pierre Lescure, artistic director Thierry Fremaux, and Francois-Henri Pinault, president and CEO of luxury goods firm Kering, which is behind the initiative. According to the organisers, Jenkins is being honoured this year in recognition of the fact that her work has enabled significant progress to be made in the fight for gender equality. The presentation will take place at a Women in Motion dinner on May 13. It will be the fourth edition of Women in Motion, which is part of the film festival's official program. Previous winners of the award include Jane Fonda, Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon and Isabelle Huppert. "Wonder Woman" was the highest-grossing summer movie of 2017. Jenkins has signed up to direct the upcoming sequel, which is currently in pre-production. The festival runs from May 8 to May 19.
'Peter Rabbit' sequel in works
After the success of "Peter Rabbit", Sony Pictures is planning a sequel to the CG/live-action hybrid film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio plans to make the sequel, which will once again be written and helmed by Will Gluck, with a release date of March 27, 2020. In the original film, popular TV host James Corden voiced the titular character who battles with the heir to Mr McGregor's garden. The film also starred Rose Byrne as Bea, Domhnall Gleeson as Thomas McGregor, Sam Neill, Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki and Margot Robbie. The movie based on the stories of Peter Rabbit created by Beatrix Potte, with Rob Lieber and Gluck penning an original story and screenplay for it. The movie grossed USD 115 million in the US and according to Sony, it is the studio's biggest-ever non-James Bond film in the UK.

Michelle Monaghan to star in Netflix Drama 'Messiah'
Actor Michelle Monaghan is set to play the lead role in upcoming Netflix series "Messiah". The 10-episode series details the world's reaction to a man (Mehdi Dehbi) who emerges from the Middle East creating a groundswell of followers who claim he is sent from God. Other people question whether he is what they say he is or rather a dangerous fraud bent on dismantling the world's geopolitical order, causing civil havoc as he beguiles the world's media and its audience. According to Variety, the series is told from multiple viewpoints, including a US Intelligence agent, a Palestinian refugee, an Israeli Shin Bet officer, and a Latino preacher and his daughter. Monaghan will play Eva Geller, a US intelligence officer, who pits her wits and years of experience against Al-Masih (Dehbi). "Messiah" was created by writer Michael Petroni who brought the project to Netflix with Mark Burnett. James McTeigue will direct the series.

Black Panther actor Martin Freeman is all set to become a part of spy thriller 'The Operative'.The actor will play a former spy handler in the espionage tale opposite Diane Kruger, reports Hollywood Reporter.Freeman will play Thomas, a former handler to Kruger's character, Rachel, recruited by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad to go undercover in Tehran.
