J-K releases 5 L to kins of late journalist

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today released cash assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of Maqbool Sahil, a journalist and an author, who passed away in Srinagar two days ago, an official spokesperson said. The chief minister recalled the contribution of Sahil in preserving and promoting Pahari art and literature, besides his role in strengthening local journalism in the state, he said.

Veteran actress rape: Accused's lawyer refutes charges, calls it family dispute

The Defence lawyer of the businessman, accused of raping a veteran actress on Friday refuted the allegation and said that both are husband and wife, which falsifies the charge of rape against him."The case filed against him is false. Defence presented before the court that my client and the actress are husband and wife so there is no question of Section 376 (rape)," Advocate Kishore Gaikwad told reporters here.He further added that his client and complainant were in a healthy relationship."But we all know that if the plaintiff is influential, anything can happen in the case," he quipped.The accused, who allegedly raped the veteran actress, was sent to police custody till March 28. Actor Daisy Irani, who featured in a string of Bollywood films as a child star, has opened up about being molested by her guardian when she was six years old. Irani said she was molested by an uncle during the shooting of "Hum Panchhi Ek Dal Ke" in 1957 in what was then called Madras. Veteran actress rape case: Accused sent to police custody

The accused in the rape case of veteran Bollywood actress has been sent to police custody till March 28 by Mumbai's Esplanade Court.The Mumbai police on Thursday arrested the accused, who is a Mumbai-based businessman.
