Kumail Nanjiani to star in action comedy 'Stuber'
"The Big Sick" star Kumail Nanjiani has joined the cast of Fox's action comedy "Stuber". The 40-year-old actor joins "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" star Dave Bautista in the project, reported Variety. The film will be helmed by Michael Dowse while the script has been penned by Tripper Clancy. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are producing it with Jake Wagner and Nick Thomas serving as the executive producers. It is about an Uber driver, who picks up a grizzled cop, played by Bautista, who is hot on the trail of a brutal killer. The driver finds himself thrust into a harrowing ordeal where he has to keep his wits, his life and his five-star rating.
Disney orders live-action remake of 'Lady and the Tramp'
Disney has roped in Charlie Bean to helm the live-action/CG hybrid remake of its 1955 classic "Lady and the Tramp". "The Lego Ninjago Movie" director will helm the project from a script by Andrew Bujalski, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Brigham Taylor will produce the project, which will be available exclusively on Disney's own digital streaming service scheduled to be launched late next year. The 1955 classic followed two dogs, an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady and a a street smart, downtown stray mongrel called the Tramp, as they embark on many romantic adventures. The film featured several popular songs, including "Bella Notte", "He's a Tramp" and "The Siamese Cat Song". Chaz Salembier and Jessica Virtue are overseeing the remake for Disney.
Amy Poehler to direct, star in Netflix comedy 'Wine Country'
Actor Amy Poehler will make her directorial debut with the Netflix comedy "Wine Country". The 46-year-old actor will also star in and produce the project. The news was shared by Netflix on Twitter. The story is about longtime friends who go to Napa for a weekend getaway to celebrate a 50th birthday. Joining Poehler in the cast are actors Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Maya Rudolph, and Emily Spivey, who has also penned the script along with Liz Cackowski.
