Longtime journalist, Pulitzer Prize winner Les Payne dies

Longtime New York journalist Les Payne has died at age 76. Payne's family confirmed his death to Newsday, where he worked for nearly four decades, rising through the ranks from reporter to associate managing editor. The newspaper reports today that Payne died unexpectedly Monday night at his home in Harlem. Newsday Editor Deborah Henley says Payne established a standard of journalistic excellence that has been "a beacon for all who have come after him." Payne oversaw foreign and national coverage, was an editor of New York Newsday and wrote a column. He was part of a Newsday reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 1974 for a series titled "The Heroin Trail." He also was a founding member and former president of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Jackie Shroff's wife shared Sahil Khan's CDRs with Rizwan Siddiqui: Thane DCP

Deputy Commissioner of police, Thane crime branch, Abhishek Trimukhe on Tuesday revealed that they have recovered a Call Detail Records (CDRs) of actor Sahil Khan during analysis of celebrity advocate Rizwan Siddiqui's mobile.As per DCP Trimukhe, the CDRs were shared with Rizwan by actor Jackie Shroff's wife, Ayesha Shroff.Rizwan, the lawyer of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was arrested by Thane crime branch in connection with a Call Detail Records (CDRs) case."Probe found that Ayesha Shroff (wife of Jackie Shroff) procured CDR of Sahil Khan and shared it with Rizwan, this was revealed in an analysis of Rizwan's mobile," said DCP Trimukhe.During the investigation, it also revealed that actress Kangana Ranaut had also shared Hrithik Roshan's mobile number with Rizwan in 2016."Also investigation has revealed that Kangana Ranaut had shared Hrithik Roshan's mobile number and shared it with the accused Rizwan Siddiqui in 2016, a reason for that is not known yet, the probe is on," the DCP ...

Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha to lead AJL editorial team

The Associated Journals Limited, a company founded in 1937 by Jawaharlal Nehru, today said it has appointed journalist Mrinal Pande as Group Senior Editorial Advisor. Pande has earlier served as editor of 'Saptahik Hindustan' and later as group editor of Hindi publications of the Hindustan Times group. The first Indian woman to be the editor-in-chief of a multi-edition national daily newspaper, she was chairperson of the Prasar Bharti and is the founder president of the Indian Women's Press Corps. She is also a Padma Shri awardee. AJL also announced the appointment of Zafar Agha as Group Editor-in-Chief for its newspapers and digital properties with immediate effect. Agha, most recently Editor-in-Chief of 'Qaumi Awaz', according to a statement issued by it. AJL is the publisher of newspapers National Herald (English), Qaumi Awaz (Urdu) and Navjivan (Hindi).

'The Crown' producers apologise to Foy, Smith over pay controversy

Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind Netflix's royal drama "The Crown", has apologised after it was revealed that the show's lead actor Claire Foy was paid less than her male counterpart Matt Smith. An ancient idol of Mata Bhadrakali was reinstalled at a famous temple in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district years after it was brought back from Jammu. The ancient temple at Bhadrakali Village in Handwara wore a festive look as the original idol of the presiding deity, Maa Bhadrakali, was restored to its original abode in a simple ceremony yesterday, a temple panel member, Bhushan Lal Pandita, said. The idol was stolen in 1981 was subsequently recovered and kept in Jammu since 1999. "In 1891, Shriman Sarwa Bayu, resident of Handwara had a dream wherein Maa Bhadrakali directed him to unearth her idol from a shrine located in Khanyar, Srinagar. His son, Pandit Keshavji Bayu accordingly retrieved the idol and placed it at Bhadrakali temple in village Bhadrakal.
