A toilet block, constructed recently by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, but unused due to opposition from local residents including film actors, was now being used as a storeroom by hawkers, residents said. Constructed by the civic body last year, the three room toilets at Bandra Bandstand were closed after complainants claimed that it was obstructing joggers there. Among those who complained to the civic body included actor Salman Khan's father Salim Khan and veteran actress Waheeda Rehman.few. "The locks of these three toilets are broken and used by the local hawkers as a storeroom for their wares. Some even take bath inside the toilets because the BMC has not stopped its water supply despite it being locked some six months ago," said a resident. A Police Control Room official said that security arrangements had been made outside all theatres and multiplexes where the film was being screened. He said the police received no report of any untoward incident during the screening of the movie. Film industry representatives had organised a special show of "Padmaavat" for local leaders and activists of Karni Sena in a city cinema hall on the night of February 7. After the show, the outfit alleged that history had been distorted and "Rani Padmini" wrongfully portrayed. This led to the postponement of the proposed February 8 release of the movie in the city. "Padmaavat" was released on January 25 in other states of the country.

A British policeman found himself in a real-life Hot Fuzz situation when he was summoned to help catch a swan that had landed on a busy road near Reading. Qazi Wajid, one of Pakistan's veteran television actors and radio entertainers, has died in the southern port city of Karachi. He was 87. Wajid was hospitalised last night for chest pain and died this morning. Born in 1930 in the eastern city of Lahore, he started his carrier as radio drama artist and remained attached to the "sound box" until television was introduced in Pakistan in 1964. Wajid won a presidential medal for his achievement in the field of radio and television dramas in 1988. In television dramas, Wajid performed a wide variety of characters, both comedians and serious. His colleagues referred to him as the "academy." He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
