Artistic freedom cannot distort heritage: Mewar ex-royal on SC's 'Padmaavat' order

Mahendra Singh Mewar, the 76th descendant of the Mewar dynasty and a former Lok Sabha member, has criticised the Supreme Court order allowing country-wide release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmaavat", saying artistic freedom is "anti-national" if it plays with history and nation's heritage.

Activists of Rajput Youth Brigade warn against screening of

Activists of the Rajput Youth Brigade today took out a protest march at Ambala Cantonment here against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film 'Padmaavat', and mounted pressure on cinema hall owners not to screen the film. Jitender Rana, national convener of Rajput youth brigade said that the cinema halls would be ransacked if the movie was screened on January 25. He said that the brigade would not allow the screening of film 'Padmaavat' in theaters at any cost as the movie contained scenes showing character of Rani Padmavati allegedly in poor light. Featuring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the film got stuck in controversy after various Rajput groups, including Rajput Karni Sena, raised their objections towards the content of the movie. Actor-host Maniesh Paul has made a foray into professional singing and he said he cannot thank superstar Salman Khan enough for helping him re-discover this long forgotten side of him. Maniesh recently launched his maiden single, "Harjai", which also features Salman's good friend Iulia Vantur. In an interview with PTI, Maniesh said he first recorded the song with composer Sachin Gupta and then, during one of his casual meetings with Salman at his farmhouse, he hummed the song which the the star found "beautiful". Jhanvi-Ishaan's 'Dhadak' to release in July

"Dhadak", the Bollywood debut film of veteran actor Sridevi's daughter Jhanvi and Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khattar, will hit the theatres on July 2018. The movie, produced by Dharma Productions, is an official remake of blockbuster Marathi film "Sairat". Producer Karan Johar today took to Twitter to announce the release date of the film. "6 months to 'DHADAK'. Releasing 20th JULY 2018! Directed by Shashank Khaitan and presenting Jhanvi and Ishaan," he tweeted. Tom Petty died of accidental drug overdose, says family

Legendary singer Tom Petty's death was the result of an accidental drug overdose, the musician's family has announced. The lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers died in October at age 66. In a statement posted to the band's Facebook page, Petty's widow, Dana, and daughter, Adria, called his death an "unfortunate accident," revealing the overdose was caused by a variety of pain medications. "As a family we recognise this report may spark a further discussion on the opioid crisis and we feel that it is a healthy and necessary discussion and we hope in some way this report can save lives.
