Maha bandh: Film, TV shoots affected, some cancelled

The state-wide bandh called by Dalit groups affected the film and television industry with some shoots being disrupted and others being cancelled as a precautionary measure. Shoots of shows like "Kundali Bhagya", "Aisi Deewangi Dekhi Nahi Kahi", aired on Zee TV channel, were affected in Andheri and Jogeshwari respectively. "There is major disruption near "Kundali Bhagya" sets. Everything is shut and there is stone pelting (happening). None of us are able to shoot and we are locked inside our vanity vans. We just hope the situation gets better soon," Manit Joura, who plays one of the lead roles in "Kundali Bhagya" said. The team of the popular Zee TV show "Piyaa Albela" altered their shoot timings from 9am-9pm shift to 5pm-5am shoot to tide over the disruption. "Shoots of Star Plus shows like "Naamkarann", "Ikyawann", "Rishton Ka Chakravyuh" were cancelled while shooting for the show "Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara" was wrapped early due to the incidents happening in the city," ...

Globes host Seth Meyers will address sexual harassment scandal

Seth Meyers, who will host the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards this Sunday, plans to address the sexual harassment scandals that have rocked Hollywood in recent months. Meyers, 44, told People magazine that his focus would be more on the film industry than Trump, who has been a favourite subject of Hollywood comedians so far. "With the monologue, as far as talking about anything in the news right now, it seems like this year more than ever Hollywood has its own internal politics that obviously deserve to be talked about," he said. "Going into it our focus is far more on the worlds that make these films and less on anything that's happening in Washington." But Trump is also going to get the mention even though Meyers admits "there are times where I wish we were talking about other things". "He holds the keys to us not talking about him, which would to be to just behave differently. But while he continues on this path, we'll continue on ours." The 2018 Golden Globes are ...

Gunn calls Foster 'old-fashioned' for slamming superhero films

Filmmaker James Gunn has called actor-director Jodie Foster "old-fashioned" over her criticism of superhero films, saying her belief system although common, it is not "totally without basis". The director of the Marvel film franshise, "Guardians of the Galaxy", posted a six-tweet response disagreeing with Foster's remark, in which she blamed the big-budget fantasy movies for "ruining" the viewing habits of the audiences worldwide. Gunn said such films can be both larger-than-life and have good content. "I think Foster looks at film(s) in an old-fashioned way where spectacle film can't be thought-provoking. It's often true but not always. Her belief system is pretty common and isn't totally without basis. Actor Gene Wilder's wife has written an emotional essay where she has opened up about her experience as a caretaker of her husband, who passed away in 2016 following a battle with the disease. Karen penned an exclusive essay for ABC News, in which she paid tribute to the caretakers who have endured the trails and tribulations of the disease. "I never pictured myself marrying a movie star. I also never saw myself spending years of my life taking care of one. But I've done both. Love was the reason for the first. Alzheimer's disease, the second," she wrote. China box-office back to strong growth in 2017

China's box-office revenues surged in 2017 after slowing sharply the preceding year, official media reported, as the world's second-largest movie market edges closer to overtaking the US. Ticket revenue grew 13.45 percent to 55.9 billion yuan ($8.6 billion) in 2017, more than triple 2016's growth rate, state media Xinhua reported late Tuesday, citing data from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT). China's box-office grew just 3.7 percent in 2016, dramatically slower than 2015's 48 percent growth. Over half of 2017's ticket revenue came from domestic films, with record breaking patriotic action blockbuster "Wolf Warrior 2" collecting 5.7 billion yuan, topping the year's box office list. The American action thriller "The Fate of The Furious" came in second, with box-office revenue of 2.7 billion yuan. John Krasinski is a fan of wife Emily Blunt's acting

John Krasinski, who is directing and acting alongside wife Emily Blunt in "A Quiet Place", says it is a treat to see her perform in front of the camera. Krasinski said he felt lucky to direct the actor in the thriller about a family, who hides from a supernatural evil attracted to sound by avoiding making sound and communicating in sign language. "The air changes in the room when she starts doing what she does. It's so honest and so pure and so powerful. It's like a superpower that she can just unlock and do so specifically with not many attempts. "For me, I love acting, and I'm so lucky to be doing it. But she's on another plane. This weird intersection happened while filming where I totally forgot I was her husband. I was just watching her performance and was lucky enough to be in the front row," he told the Vanity Fair magazine. The movie is set for release later this year.

HC sets aside Censor Board order on 'Battle for Banaras' film

The Delhi High Court today set aside the Censor Board's decision refusing to allow public viewing of a documentary chronicling the high-voltage 2014 campaign for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat involving Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal and Congress candidate Ajay Rai. Modi won the elections comfortably. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva sent the matter back to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) to take a fresh decision with reasons within four weeks. The petition had sought quashing of the April 4 order of the FCAT and the October 16, 2015 decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) refusing to certify the documentary "Battle for Banaras", saying no reasons were given for rejecting their plea for certification. The petition, by the documentary's producers, alleges that the Censor Board and FCAT orders contained no mention of what parts of the film were objectionable and violated the guidelines of film certification issued under the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
