Plea filed in Madras HC against release of 'Sarkar'
A petition was filed in the Madras High Court Wednesday seeking to stall the release of Vijay-starrer "Sarkar" for allegedly infringing copyrights. Writer and assistant director Varun Rajendran has claimed ownership of the film's story. He claimed that Sarkar's story was a replica of his work titled 'Sengol', which he had registered with the writer's union in 2007. He sought to restrain the movie's release unless he was given due credit for the story. He also asked the makers of the film to pay Rs 30 lakh as compensation for the alleged infringement. The petitioner's counsel made a mention before Justice M Sundar and requested the court to hear his plea on an urgent basis. The judge said the petition would be taken up on Thursday after the court was informed that a caveat had already been filed by the producers, barring the court from hearing the case without putting them on notice. Actor Jacqueline Fernandez says sexual exploitation is not an industry-specific issue as predators are everywhere, "sometimes in our own household". When asked about the #MeToo movement which has hit the entertainment industry, Jacqueline said one should encourage the dialogue that is currently happening. "It's very important that we remember that gender dialogue is conversation that has been long overdue. Let's not limit it to our industry. It's a dialogue that has long been overdue in our society as well. "Unfortunately, the sad truth is that sexual predators are all around us. They are sometimes in our own household," Jacquline told reporters. The actor said the issue is not entirely about sex but about power struggle. "It's about people taking entitlement. We really have to stick to the issue and be serious about it if we want a solution and if we want to have a safe workplace for everyone and for the society," she added.
Two more Kannada film personalities face #MeToo charges
After actor Arjun Sarja, two more Kannada film personalities, including director Ravi Srivatsa, have been accused of sexual harassment by two women. ActressSanjjanaa Galrani alleged she was harassed by Srivatsa during the shoot of a Kannada movie 13 years ago, while activist Ekta M shared an account of her close friend accusing screenwriter of a popular contemporary movie of seeking sexual favours. Srivatsa rejected the charge and accused Galrani of making baseless allegations. The latest charges come days after multi-lingual actress Sruthi Hariharan, in a Facebook post praising #MeToo movement, alleged Arjun behaved with her in "lewd and complete unprofessional" manner. Arjun, a multi-lingual actor, has said he is pained by the allegation and would file a case. TN cinema theatres to install cameras to curb piracy
To combat piracy, Tamil cinema producers and theatre owners have resolved to install CCTV cameras in movie halls, saying no films would be provided for screening to those exhibitors not complying with the decision. The move comes in the wake of the Tamil Film Producers' Council (TFPC) coming across instances of movies being pirated in certain cinema halls in the state. TFPC has since blacklisted such theatres against future releases. A joint statement from TFPC and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association Wednesday said it has been decided that CCTV cameras would be installed inside and outside all theatres. A meeting of the office-bearers of two bodies attended by TFPC President, actor Vishal Krishna, among others on Tuesday, adopted resolutions in this regard, it said. Irrfan Khan might return to India after Diwali, says spokesperson
A spokesperson for Irrfan Khan Wednesday dismissed the reports that the actor will soon start shooting for "Hindi Medium 2". The 51-year-old actor is currently abroad undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine tumour. The spokesperson, however, said that Irrfan may return to the country after Diwali. "The story floating about Irrfan starting 'Hindi Medium 2' shoot in December are all based on speculations. However, there is a possibility of him returning to India after Diwali," the spokesperson said in a statement. A report in an online portal had claimed the actor will be flying to India to shoot for the sequel of his 2017 hit. Irrfan first spoke of his health on March 5, when he revealed that he was suffering from a 'rare disease'. Katie Holmes to star in 'The Boy 2'
Actor Katie Holmes has joined the cast of the sequel to the horror hit "The Boy". The 2016 original, directed by William Brent Bell, featured Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans in the lead. The story follows a new family moving into an estate, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily lifelike doll he calls Brahms. Bell, who is currently shooting for Rupert Friend-starrer "Separation", will return for the follow-up alongside screenwriter Stacey Menear, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Holmes, 39, will play Liza in the sequel. Principal photography for the film will start in Victoria, British Columbia, in January next year.
