A petition was filed in the Madras High Court Wednesday seeking to stall the release of Vijay-starrer "Sarkar" for allegedly infringing copyrights. Writer and assistant director Varun Rajendran has claimed ownership of the film's story. He claimed that Sarkar's story was a replica of his work titled 'Sengol', which he had registered with the writer's union in 2007. He sought to restrain the movie's release unless he was given due credit for the story. He also asked the makers of the film to pay Rs 30 lakh as compensation for the alleged infringement. The petitioner's counsel made a mention before Justice M Sundar and requested the court to hear his plea on an urgent basis. The judge said the petition would be taken up on Thursday after the court was informed that a caveat had already been filed by the producers, barring the court from hearing the case without putting them on notice. Actor Jacqueline Fernandez says sexual exploitation is not an industry-specific issue as predators are everywhere, "sometimes in our own household". When asked about the #MeToo movement which has hit the entertainment industry, Jacqueline said one should encourage the dialogue that is currently happening. "It's very important that we remember that gender dialogue is conversation that has been long overdue. Let's not limit it to our industry. It's a dialogue that has long been overdue in our society as well. "Unfortunately, the sad truth is that sexual predators are all around us. They are sometimes in our own household," Jacquline told reporters. The actor said the issue is not entirely about sex but about power struggle. "It's about people taking entitlement. To combat piracy, Tamil cinema producers and theatre owners have resolved to install CCTV cameras in movie halls, saying no films would be provided for screening to those exhibitors not complying with the decision. The move comes in the wake of the Tamil Film Producers' Council (TFPC) coming across instances of movies being pirated in certain cinema halls in the state. TFPC has since blacklisted such theatres against future releases. A joint statement from TFPC and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association Wednesday said it has been decided that CCTV cameras would be installed inside and outside all theatres. A meeting of the office-bearers of two bodies attended by TFPC President, actor Vishal Krishna, among others on Tuesday, adopted resolutions in this regard, it said. A spokesperson for Irrfan Khan Wednesday dismissed the reports that the actor will soon start shooting for "Hindi Medium 2". The 51-year-old actor is currently abroad undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine tumour. The spokesperson, however, said that Irrfan may return to the country after Diwali. "The story floating about Irrfan starting 'Hindi Medium 2' shoot in December are all based on speculations. However, there is a possibility of him returning to India after Diwali," the spokesperson said in a statement.
