'Dude, Where's My Car?' director Danny Leiner passes away
American film director Danny Leiner who directed the popular slacker comedies like 'Dude, Where's My Car?' and 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle', died at the age of 57.Leiner's representative confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter and said that the director died on Thursday at his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer.The 57-year-old also helmed episodes of such series as 'The Sopranos', 'Sports Night', 'Strangers With Candy', 'Arrested Development', 'The Office', 'Felicity', 'Everwood', 'Gilmore Girls', 'Freaks and Geeks', 'The Mind of the Married Man', 'The Tick and Party of Five' among others.'Harold & Kumar' stars John Cho and Kal Penn also remembered Leiner on Twitter."Danny was so sharp, so funny, and a great dinner companion. Now, Rome Film Festival signs gender parity pledge
Following the likes of Cannes and Venice Film Festivals, the Rome Film Festival has signed a gender parity pledge on Saturday (local time) which will go on to ensure equal participation of female talents.The pledge calls for the Rome Film Fest to be transparent in all data about festival submissions and board members, and to work to reach 50/50 gender parity in the festival's executive leadership.According to The Hollywood Reporter, over 100 men and women working in the Rome entertainment industry, including Paul Feig and Kirsten Schaffer, took to the red carpet to pose with an enlarged copy of the pledge.In other events, French actor Isabelle Huppert was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award for acting.The award, which was presented by actor Toni Servillo, recognises the Golden Globe awardee's complexity of roles and depth of characters played during the span of her career.The thirteenth edition of the Rome Film Festival, which commenced on October 18, will go on till October
'Bohemian Rhapsody' to be screened in ScreenX format
The upcoming biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' based on the life of American singer Freddie Mercury has become the second film, after 'KingsmanAccording to Deadline, ScreenX is a multi-projection system used in a cinema hall. The system was created in 2012 by CJ CGV, a South Korean multiplex cinema chain. It is a multisensory cinema technology that brings in motion and environmental effects.It allows cinemagoers to go beyond the frame of the movie screen that utilises a system which helps in expanding images of films in order to create an immersive 270-degree experience.The films on this format will be projected onto three cinema screens. Only 164 cinema halls around the world are equipped with this technology.According to Byung Hwan Choi, CEO, of the CJ CGV multiplex chain said that the upcoming film is perfect for cinema lovers to experience it in ScreenX.
'Harold and Kumar' director passes away
American film and TV director Danny Leiner has died at the age of 57 after a prolonged illness.The director of America's famous comedy film series 'Harold and Kumar' passed away on Thursday, reported Page Six. The exact cause of his death is yet to be revealed.Leiner's 'Dude, Where's My Car?' starring Ashton Kutcher, which was released in 2000, grossed over USD 73.2 million.He is well known for directing the 2005 movie 'The Great New Wonderful'. The movie wove together five stories set against the backdrop of the uncertain post-September 11 New York City tragedy.He also directed TV shows like 'The Office', 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Arrested Development'. Leiner even worked as a producer for independent films like 'The Architect' and 'The Young Kieslowski'.
Sanatan Sanstha files case of trespassing against journalists
Right wing outfit Sanatan Sanstha filed a police complaint Saturday against a journalist and a cameraman of a news channel for allegedly trespassing into its premises in North Goa district and shooting video of a woman disciple. The complaint was lodged by trustee of the Sanstha Virendra Marathe and the woman disciple at Ponda police station. The journalist and the cameraman illegally entered the Sanstha's headquarters in Ramnathi in Ponda tehsil and shot video of a woman disciple ("sadhak") without her consent on October 10, said the complaint. The video was later broadcast on the news channel, it said. When contacted, a senior policeofficial from Ponda police station said the complaint was being examined. The Sanstha was recently under the scanner when a man arrested by Maharashtra police following a seizure of arms and ammunition claimed that he was its member. Quantum Realm will play key role in Marvel films, says Michael Douglas
Veteran actor Michael Douglas has revealed that Quantum Realm will play an important part in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies. Douglas physicist Dr Hank Pym in MCU movies and the concept of Quantum Realm was first teased in "Ant-Man", which featured Paul Rudd as the titular character. As described by Dr Pym, the Quantum Realm is "a reality where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity". "I mean, all of them I mean, the Quantum Realm, that's the key. That's the key. The Quantum Realm plays an important part in all the next chapters, I think, of the Marvel films," Douglas said during an appearance on "On Air With Ryan Seacrest". Nicky Minaj and Halsey are set to perform at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards. The two singers joins Spanish singer Rosalia and Janet Jackson as the performers for this years award ceremony, MTV announced in a press release. This is the first time Halsey and Rosalia will be performing at the EMAs. Jackson, who is going to receive the Global Icon Award during the ceremony, will perform a medley of her greatest hits during the show. Artist Riyas Komu has stepped down from all management positions connected to the Kochi Muziris Biennale (KMB) after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him. In a statement released Friday, the Kochi Biennale Foundation stated that a committee would be constituted to "inquire into this matter". "Though the Foundation has received no formal complaint, we are collectively committed to ensuring zero tolerance to any harassment or misconduct.
