Tibet in Toronto film festival spotlight

Two highly anticipated titles in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 43rd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which kicked off here on Thursday, has put the spotlight on Tibet, a part of the world that suffers continuing political repression and does not have a functional movie industry. One of these two TIFF entries, Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam's "The Sweet Requiem", is from India. The world premiere of the director duo's second narrative feature is scheduled for Sunday morning at TIFF Lightbox here. The other, Pema Tseden's "Jinpa", is from China and is produced by celebrated filmmaker Wong Kar-wai. Both films have been shot in difficult terrains. Bengaluru to host Aero India 2019

Amid debates over a change in venue, the Ministry of Defence has announced that Aero India 2019 will be held in Bengaluru itself from February 20-24.The five-day event will combine a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries with public air shows. Besides global leaders and big investors in the aerospace industry, the show will also see participation by think-tanks from across the world and will provide an opportunity for the exchange of information, ideas and new developments in the aviation industry. Films I have done should be banned: Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna, who has acted in films like "Barsaat" and "Mela" among others, is not proud of her work as an actor as she says, her movies should be banned and hopes that no one watches them. YouTube acquires documentary on work of Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi

American video-sharing website YouTube has acquired the award-winning documentary on the work of Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and will bring the Indian activist's sustained efforts to end child labour to a global audience. "The Price of Free", directed by Derek Doneen and produced by American film and television personality Davis Guggenheim, follows Satyarthi and his team through secret raids and missions to rescue children. Co-produced and co-financed by film company Participant Media and Concordia Studio, the 90-minute YouTube original feature length documentary will debut on YouTube channel SoulPancake, the digital division of Participant Media, on November 27. The film had premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the US Documentary Grand Jury Prize.
