Brie Larson lands role in 'Just Mercy' opposite Michael B. Jordan
American actress Brie Larson is all set to join Michael B. Jordan in his upcoming flick, 'Just Mercy'.Based on the memoir by Bryan Stevenson, the movie will feature the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative who fights on behalf of the innocent and death-row prisoners trapped in the criminal justice system, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter.The movie will also show Stevenson's first case of Walter McMillian, a black man who was convicted and given the death sentence for a crime he didn't commit.Jordan will produce the movie, while the flick will be directed by 'The Glass Castle's Destin Cretton. Pashto actress Reshma shot dead
In yet another incident of violence against female artists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, actress and singer Reshma was recently shot dead allegedly by her husband in Nowshera Kalan area.According to a report by Geo tv, Reshma, who was the suspect's fourth wife, used to live with her brother at the city's Hakimabad area.Police revealed that the suspect had entered the house and started firing at his wife, following a domestic dispute. However, Reshma's husband managed to escape the crime scene.The investigation into the matter has been initiated after the police registered the case.This is the 15th such incident of violence against female artists in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. In a similar incident, stage actress Sunbul was shot dead on February 3, after she repeatedly refused to accompany the accused to a private party.Known for her popular Pashto songs, Reshma had also acted in the famous Pakistani drama 'Zhobal Goluna'.

Change is coming to the Oscars as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a new award- Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film, which is the first new category since 2001 when the Animated feature was added.As reported by E Online, Academy President John Bailey and CEO Dawn Hudson, in a letter told members that apart from the new popular film category, the Oscar telecast will be shortened to three hours.The letter read, "We are committed to producing an entertaining show in three hours, delivering a more accessible Oscars for our viewers worldwide. To honor all 24 award categories, we will present select categories live, in the Dolby Theatre, during commercial breaks (categories to be determined). The Academy, which re-elected cinematographer John Bailey as its president recently besides inviting more members to its fold to increase the representation of women and minorities, hopes to arrest the dwindling viewership of the main telecast ahead of the Oscars in February next year. According to the Hollywood Reporter, which had a copy of the letter that Bailey and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson had written to the members, the board of governors has approved "significant changes to the Oscars telecast". Oscars add popular film category, sets earlier 2020 date
The Oscars are adding a new category to honour popular films and promising a brisk three-hour ceremony and a much earlier air date in 2020. John Bailey, the newly re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and film Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in an email to members today that the Board of Governors met last night to approve the changes. Ratings for the 90th Academy Awards fell to an all-time low of 26.5 million viewers, down 19 percent from the previous year and the first time the glitzy awards ceremony had fewer than 30 million viewers since 2008. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the ceremony also clocked it at nearly four hours, making it the longest show in over a decade. "We have heard from many of you about improvements needed to keep the Oscars and our Academy relevant in a changing world," Hudson and Bailey wrote. Veteran Bengali actor Chinmoy Roy discharged from hospital
Veteran Bengali actor Chinmoy Roy was today discharged from a private hospital in the city where he had been admitted with multiple injuries on June 30. He was discharged following a surgery after he was admitted and remained there for several days, a hospital spokesman said. Roy is currently doing well but he needs bed rest for a few weeks, he said. The 77-year-old actor, who is mainly known as a comedian, had fallen off the fourth floor of his apartment on June 30 evening, sustaining serious injuries, his son Sankha had said. He was found lying on the ground floor of the building in South Kolkata by neighbours and admitted to the hospital. Roy had acted in classics like "Charmurti", "Basanta Bilap" and "Nanigopaler Biye".
