Green hydrogen company Ohmium raises $250 mn to help address climate change

In what could prove a milestone for an industry that hopes to help address climate change, the Silicon Valley company Ohmium announced Wednesday it has raised $250 million to increase production of machines that can make clean hydrogen and displace fossil fuels. Some climate experts say burning hydrogen can substitute for burning coal, oil or gas, for example in making steel or cement without contributing to climate change. That's been largely theoretical, but real world examples are now growing. Just four or five years ago, a company working on clean hydrogen from water would not have been able to raise several hundred million dollars, said Daryl Wilson, executive director of the Hydrogen Council. But now there's rapid growth and demand for it, and a broader recognition that it's key to addressing climate change, he said. Mark Viehman, a hydrogen and clean fuels expert at the consulting firm Capgemini, called $250 million a very impressive fundraise, and said its own recent resear

European Union agrees to boost green fuels for aviation, cut emissions

New rules requiring airlines to use more sustainable fuels across the European Union have been agreed by negotiators from member countries and the EU Parliament in a bid to help decarbonise the sector. The European Commission, the bloc's executive arm, said Wednesday that the deal reached by member states and the European Parliament demands that suppliers blend sustainable aviation fuels with kerosene in growing amounts from 2025. The move is expected to reduce aircraft carbon emissions by two-thirds by 2050 compared to a no action' scenario, and provide climate and air quality benefits by reducing non-CO2 emissions," the Commission said. The aviation sector accounts for 13.9 per cent of transportation emissions in the EU, making it the second biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the sector after road transport, the Commission says. If global aviation were a country, it would rank in the top 10 emitters. The political agreement is part of the EU 's Fit for 55 package, whic

Jakson Green developing green hydrogen refuelling station in New Delhi

Jakson Green on Tuesday said it is developing a green hydrogen fuelling station at Badarpur in the capital city for a major power company in India. The project is expected to offset 3.7 tonnes of CO2 per day once operational, a company statement said. The green hydrogen fuelling station involves the establishment of a specialised and dedicated facility that will use the green energy generated on-site by a renewable hybrid to generate, compress, store, and dispense green hydrogen, utilising a hydrogen purification system, it stated. As a part of the project, the company will also incorporate a battery energy storage system (BESS) backed renewable hybrid power plant within the station, making it a completely self-sustained facility. The fuelling station is expected to produce 260 kg of green hydrogen per day at a pressure of 350 bar that will be utilised to fuel up to five intercity FCEV (fuel cell electric vehicle) buses.
