Country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp today unveiled an all-new model - Xtreme 200R - as part of its plans to strengthen presence in the premium segment. The new product powered by a 200cc air-cooled engine will hit markets across the country in April this year. "The all-new Xtreme 200R is a bold and focussed step towards reshaping our presence in the premium segment," Hero MotoCorp Head of Global Product Planning Malo Le Masson told reporters here. Starting this year, the company would focus on the 150 cc and above premium segment and would continue to bring in more products in the category, he added. Powered by a BS-IV compliant 200 cc engine, the Xtreme 200R produces a maximum power of 18.4 PS. The bike can accelerate from 0-60 km/hr in 4.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 114 km/hr, the company added. Two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp today said it will increase prices of its motorcycles across models by about Rs 400 per model on an average from January to partially offset rising input costs. The company is the latest automobile firm after Hyundai, Nissan, Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors, Ford, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Honda Cars India, Skoda and Isuzu, to announce price hikes from early next year. "The price hike translates to about Rs 400 per model. The exact quantum of the increase will vary, basis the model and the specific market," Hero MotoCorp said in a statement. The company sells a range of motorcycles starting from entry level HF Deluxe price at Rs 42,432 onwards to Karizma ZMR tagged at around Rs 1.10 lakh. Automobile firms usually announce price hikes in December as they try to woo customers, who usually postpone purchases to acquire vehicles in the new year.

Hero MotoCorp, the country's biggest two-wheeler maker, is learnt to be working on at least two electric models, for commercial rollout in the next two to three years. Development work is on at the company's research and development centre in Jaipur. Hero has also invested Rs 205 crore in Ather Energy, a Bengaluru-based entity which is developing electric two-wheelers."Hero MotoCorp intends to enhance its participation in the electric vehicle (EV) space by pursuing its internal EV programme, in addition to partnering with Ather. At the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, we have an ongoing project exclusively dedicated to developing EVs," said a company spokesperson.
